Originally developed as an expansion pack for Return To Castle Wolfenstein, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory was released as a free online multiplayer First Person Shooter that any user can download, install and play completely free. Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory generated (and still does) a lot of buzz in the gaming community.

The idea behind the free Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is very much like the Battlefield series: two teams (the Allies and the Axis) battle against each other for supremacy over various mission objectives that vary from map to map. The player can choose to be a Soldier (good with heavy weapons), a Medic (that can heal other players), an Engineer (that can build stuff or repair damaged equipment and vehicles), a Field Op (these guys can call artillery and air strikes- limited, obviously) or a Special Op (that can disguise themselves as the enemy as well as use some special weapons).
