Crysis 2, the sequel to one of the most critically acclaimed first-person shooters of all time (right up there with classics like Half-Life 2), will be the second part of a trilogy developed by Crytek and published by Electronic Arts. Even though the original Crysis is not the only game that takes place in the universe imagined by Crytek, Crysis Warhead is considered only a spin-off and not a fully fledged sequel.

You might remember that Crysis was (and still is) a PC exclusive game.Well, that won’t be the case with Crysis 2. After blaming the piracy for the somewhat lackluster sales (the title sold a disappointing 86,633 units in the States following its Nov. 13, 2007 release.) the producers have reconsidered their strategy, making Crysis 2 a multi-platform game.

Cevat Yerli (Founder, CEO & President of Crytek.):

We are suffering currently from the huge piracy that is encompassing Crysis. We seem to lead the charts in piracy by a large margin, a chart leading that is not desirable. I believe that’s the core problem of PC Gaming, piracy. To the degree PC Gamers that pirate games inherently destroy the platform. Similar games on consoles sell factors of 4-5 more. It was a big lesson for us and I believe we wont have PC exclusives as we did with Crysis in future. We are going to support PC, but not exclusive anymore.

Not many details have been released about the game (a one minute teaser and 2 official screenshots) but, recently, a number of scans have surfaced on the Internet. The official PlayStation magazine has made a feature about the Crysis 2 PS3 while PC Gamer Magazine has published a preview about the Crysis 2 PC version.

Now, we know that Crytek ‘s CEO said that “I don’t feel we’ve compromised anything” while talking about the PS3 version. But, after seeing the Crysis 2 scans, a lot of gamers have found themselves thinking: “Is that really the truth?”.

While is still too early to say for certain, it does seem that Crysis 2 PC has the upper hand (graphically speaking).

Who do you think will win this round? PC or PS3 (maybe Xbox?)?

  • Well, I own a PC and a PS3, and even IF the PS3 could keep up, the PS3 and 360 are both incapable of DX10 level rendering, and therefore lose automatically. Crytek has always shown strong ability to provide hardware scaling in their engines, as such, PC will most certainly win this competition hands down. Can’t wait to get it for my PC though, got a nice spot for it next to Crysis and Crysis Warhead (Both of which, I bought).

  • with all the people pirating the pc games there will be free games for most who want it on pc. Fact

  • crysis sold like 2 to 3 million slot of consoles games don’t even make that kind of figures, keep talking trash and alot pc gamers will start to hate you.

wolfinsten, fear and UT3 are now epic flops because of consoles.

there is game devs in the Industry that is always looking to take your place.

  • I would like to add that 11 000 console game devs have gone bankuprt because of consoles too

alot of console game devs don’t even break 1 million. high production costs, pircay, rented and used game market are killing console game devs.

that being said the real money is online where game devs are not going bankupt. It is why EA has bought playfish.

  • By the way pc gaming is getting a few cuting edge game like project offset and theif 4

  • I liked Crysis and Warhead. They were decent, though we all know that Cryengine 2 could have done far, far more. I feel like a lot of the levels were just tossed out in haste.

Now, they seem to want to dumb it down so they can stick it on consoles. I think they fear that if they do too well on the PC it will make the console versions look bad.

Well, if they want me and all the other PC gamers to buy it, then it had best be better graphically and Physics wise than Crysis Warhead. Otherwise, why should we buy it? We can always just keep modding Crysis.

And don’t give us that dumbed down toonish shit that is BFBC2. Serious PC gamers will never accept that.

  • yea the game is not worth getting it’s going to be dumb down that what romours are proof and be found here

  • PC or platform? ARE YOU KIDDING ME???
PCs have videocards the size of a console.
That basically means PC is king. The figures and visuals prove it.
