Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 Review (for Xbox360 and PS3)

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is an action RPG (Role Playing Game) based on Marvel characters. Because the game was well received by both critics and the gamers, it was only obvious that a sequel will be made (name one game that was a decent hit that did not receive a sequel) but, unlike most sequels, the game is actually well made and was not released only to milk as much money as it can from the audience.

The story continues from where the first game left it off. After defeating Dr. Doom, Iron Man, Nick Fury and Cpt. America go off investigating Doom’s castle. Things don’t go the way they are supposed to (it wouldn’t have been much of an interesting storyline if it had

:P ) and here is where you go in. Be prepared for some intrigue in this game as the storyline is quite good and will keep you captivated. Because a “civil war” disbands both the superheroes and the villains, the producers give the possibility of choosing your side: join the Alliance (led by Iron Man and Mister Fantastic) or the Rebels (led by Luke Cage and Captain America). Depending on the side you choose to join, the story will unveil itself from a different perspective, making the game a lot of fun to play it again by joining the other team.

One place where Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 has improved from the first game is the visual aspects: the game looks a lot better and the cut scenes fit in MARVELously. The audio part of the game is not bad either, with decent voice play and a captivating soundtrack.

The Dossiers and Marvel trivia in the game are just what the game needed and they represent a very smart move from the producers. By responding to trivia questions you will win experience points, with the option to read the Dossiers (that you will have to unlock too) to increase your knowledge of the characters. By reading the dossiers, you will learn a lot more about the characters and the way the Marvel world works, making you really understand each and every detail that makes up the storyline. You can also win experience by completing challenges, but the trivia addition has a unique feeling.

The multiplayer module of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 is basically the same as with the first game: choose up to three other people and join the game in any point of the storyline you want.

Unfortunately, the increased potential of replaying the game is somewhat damaged by the fact that the fights will seem repetitive at some points, but this is something you will have to decide for yourself. One thing is certain: you will always have something new to do in the game: take a trivia, complete a challenge, join another side, download some content, equip your character differently, etc.

I really can’t see a good enough reason why a Marvel fan should not buy the game. If you are not a Marvel or comics fan, you just might become after playing the game (the Dossiers will also give you all the information you need to really enjoy the game at its full potential).

Great game and I’m gonna get it soon but aren’t the pics from the first game? Aren’t there less characters than the last game also?

    This is a fake review.

Yeah, this screams fake to me. The information in the review has been freely available on different sites for a while now, and all of the pictures in the review were from the previous game.

  4. RR says:

lol your all f*cking stupid, these are screens from the second game, look at the Green Goblin?..and the way Venom looks?..ah well enough time waisted.

those pictures were put in an hour ago. the old snapshot was there since last night. It’s actually kind of funny. I guess getting search engine hits is a tough business. Good luck on the next scam.

Ah had’nt seen that one. I was reading the comments, when the new screenshots where added then. I was like WTF?
