Wii Fit Plus Review

Wii Fit was released by Nintendo last year more as an experiment for what the console can do. Despite this, the “game” had a lot of success and both critics and users enjoyed the experience despite the limitations that it had. The soon to be launched Wii Fit Plus promises to bring a lot more to the table than the previous edition: more games, a lot more fun and an overall better experience.

One thing that Wii Fit owners will enjoy is the fact that Wii Fit Plus incorporates all the exercises from Wii Fit and also gives you the option to continue from where you left off by loading a Wii Fit save file.

While the first few minutes of the game will still be centered on establishing a customized workout, based on your weight (you need the board for this) and other measurements, one fun thing has been added. Wii Fit Plus will also take measurements of your cat or dog and display a representation of your beloved pet in the game. There is nothing you dog can do with the game, but it’s fun to have your furry fellow around in your virtual world.

One addition to the game that we liked is the My Wii Fit Plus. This is the place where you can quickly begin some workouts that cover four categories: Lifestyle, Youth, Health and form. Each one of these categories contains three exercises. It is really a great way to enter the game and start working out as soon as possible, depending on what you want at the moment. For instance, if you ate too much, just go into the Health category at My Wii Fit Plus and select the Overindulged workout. You will soon begin your workout with a Basic Run exercise, continue with a Rythm Boxing experience up to the Lunges exercise. Fun and very healthy.

The My Routine is the place where you can go to make up your own routine. Select the exercises you want to do and how long you want to do them and start working out. Like mentioned before, all the Yoga and Strength training exercises are there, as well as three new additions for both the yoga (Gate, Grounded V and Spine Extension) and strength training (Side Lunge, Single-Leg Reach and Balance Bridge).

All the workouts you perform will be recorded in the Calorie Counter. This is the area where Nintendo took the game to the next level. You enter what you ate today and, based on the info from the National Nutrient Database that the game can access, you will know exactly how many calories you have to burn. For each exercise you perform, Wii Fit Plus will tell you how many calories you burned. A great way to know how much you should work out and also an ingenious way of keeping track of the amount of calories you take in each day.

But don’t be fooled: the Wii Fit Plus is not all work and no play. The game also has 15 new Training Plus activities that you can do to have fun while burning some calories. Most of the games use the weight board, the remote and the nunchuck to make you Kung-Fu, go through an Obstacle Course or Fly Like a bird in your virtual environment. The games are very fun and bring something extra to the game that will make you enjoy the experience a lot more.

With all the various modes, games and workouts that the Wii Fit Plus has, it is definitely suited for everyone. It is one of the few games that is really for all members of your family: you can skate around the park, develop some strength, keep your body in form and all this and more while having a lot of fun. The Wii Fit Plus will ship out October 4 and you can preorder the game on Amazon for $19.49 while the game plus the balance board is $98.99. If you have the previous game, you just have to buy the new one. If you don’t have it, you don’t know what you are missing out on.
