How To Remove / Uninstall Block Watcher Virus (Removal Guide)

BlockWatcher is the latest rogue anti-spyware from the Wini family of rogues. This article will provide you a quick guide on how to remove the BlockWatcher virus, as well as some information about this pesky little fellow.

Just like with other rogues that we talked about here at SoftSailor, we will begin this article by telling you that BlockWatcher is a rogue anti-spyware. That means it is a scam application that will fake security issues so that you buy BlockWatcher to protect your computer. In reality, the security warnings that BlockWatcher gives are fake and you should not pay attention to them.

BlockWatcher got on your computer when you visited a web site that prompted you for a flash update or video codec download required for you to view a video online. When you allowed this to happen, a Trojan was download on your computer and BlockWatcher was then downloaded by that Trojan. After BlockWatcher was installed, it was automatically set up to start when Windows loads. In addition, a bunch of harmless fils with random names have been created. Next time you load up Windows, BlockWatcher loads up and performs a scan of your computer (a fake scan). The scan report will then find the files mentioned above as infections and ask you to buy the program so it canremove these security threats.

There will also be fake security warnings on your desktop as well as a fake Windows Security Center windows that recommends you buying BlockWatcher. Like we stated above, do not believe these warnings, they are all tactics meant to scare you so that you buy the program.

1. Go to this link and download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware on your desktop.
2. Close all applications and windows (yes, this one too- print these instructions if you have to).
3. Make sure you also exit all applications that run in the system tray.
4. Now that you are the desktop, run the mbam-setup.exe installer.
5. Proceed with the installing process. Make sure not to change the default settings.
6. When the installation is almost over, make sure you tell the software to automatically update and then launch itself by ticking the corresponding boxes.
7. When Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware has finished updating itself and it loads, go to the Scanner tab and perform a quick scan. Now wait for MBAM to scan your computer for BlockWatcher and related files, as well as any other malware you may have on your comptuer.
8. When the scan is complete, while back at the Scanner screen, press the “show results” button.
9. Check all the results and then click “Remove Selected”. Now wait for MBAM to remove BlockWatcher from your computer (any other malware too).

When MBAM finishes removing malware, a log will show up in Notepad. Close this and you are done. Now you have successfully removed BlockWatcher, all related file as well as other malware you might have had on your computer.
