One of the biggest problems with the iPhone and iPod touch is that these two don’t have a good enough battery indicator. We’ve all seen the iPhone 3GS battery indicator, and it’s looking great. Let’s not forget how useful it is. The iPhone OS 3.0 should have provided that battery indicator for all iPhone and iPod touches, however, Apple decided to bring it only to the iPhone 3GS. Who cares? Now you can get the iPhone 3GS battery indicator on all iPhones and iPod touches, however, some of you will not like the idea of jailbreaking your smartphones / media players.

In order to get the battery indicator, you will have to jailbreak your device, then transfer some files, and then create a new item. Sounds easy right? Well, watch the video below to learn how to get the iPhone 3GS battery indicator on all iPhones and iPod touches.

  • Just tried this Out On My iPhone 3G, I think I May Have A Better Solution, Which does not involve Cydia or Installer, but by using a Jailbroken iPhone 3G running 3.0. [ON A MAC] Using DiskAid & accessing the root folder of the iPhone and replacing the plist file, I was able to achieve the same effect. I have jailbroken my iphone only for the purpose of accessing the root folder and toying around with the core settings. I do not have Cydia or Installer on my iPhone.
Thank you for the information on what to add to the plist file as I knew that this could be done, but i didn’t know the right file(s) to modify / replace.

I originally had a 3G iPhone and it was jailbroke. I then upgraded to 3.0 and it automatically had the % indicator. I thought this was the norm until I tried putting it on a friends non jailbrok iPhone. So bottom line, I guess if it was originally jailbroke it just might work without you doing anything…

  • I jailbroke my iPhone 3G when it was on 2.2 and when I upgraded to 3.0 the % indicator was automatically there. I did not have to do anything to obtain this meter. Although pre-3.0, Winterboard had a very similar feature, just without the battery image in the corner and the % sign.

  • jailbreaker is right,

using the numeric indication switch, place it on. you can obtain that in SBSettings or in Bossprefs. turning on that switch turns the 3gs’s indicator. i believe this happens because it accesses the information from the same .plist as the hack in 2.2.1 or below, therefore enabling the battery indicator next to the normal one, instead of replacing it.
