Micro-USB to become an International Phone Charger Standard
The new Universal Charging Solution is a thought that will certainly help you get rid of all those old and useless phone chargers you have hidden away in some drawer but more importantly, it will help the world by reducing unwanted waste and by improving energy efficiency. The idea is that when you change your phone you don’t have to change your charger too, and if you think about it now it’s sad that this hasn’t been implemented until now. All that e-waste…
The International Communications Union, part of the UN, is the culprit responsible for the approval of an “energy-efficient one-charger-fits-all” that should invade the mobile phone world as early as 2012. We haven’t gotten any official world on whether the standard charger-port will be micro-USB but all arrows point to it.
As told by the ICU, all phones will take part in this “”Every mobile phone user will benefit from the new Universal Charging Solution (UCS), which enables the same charger to be used for all future handsets, regardless of make and model,” which immediately brings up one word that has a big echo throughout the mobile phone world, Apple. They are known to have their own solutions added to their products and it is hard to see an iPhone with a micro-USB port. But if we give this another go, they might roll out some sort of adapter, micro-USB to Apple’s 30-pin port.

Until now, this has gotten broad support from manufacturers and carriers such as Motorola, LG, Samsung, AT&T and T-Mobile. All in all, this move could help save 51.000 tons of waste.

Tell Apple to fuck off with their proprietary bullshit. They are worse than Microsoft in this regard.
