3D experience for home – 3D VISION AND 3D VISION DISCOVER

At this point, only nVidia has brought to the public a technology capable of delivering tridimensional reality through a commercial solution.

The available technology now has 2 choices; the pre-paid one that includes the active 3D Vision glasses priced at approximately US $ 200 , and eventually another 400-500 US $ for an LCD display capable of 120Mhz refresh rate(and of course a high performance nVidia graphic card ). And the second choice is the preview one, with anaglyph glasses which can be found inside the nVidia’s High-End graphic card boxes.

The 3D VISION is based on the stereoscopic technology, a technology that displays twice the same image, overlap, and with a small gap that can be adjusted.

The technology is not new, but it hasn’t been implemented and promoted like this until now.

3D VISION is based on a pair of polarized glasses, that are able to close each lens from time to time, and so they gave the feeling of depth. These glasses receive the information by infrareds from a transmitter that is connected to the PC through a USB port.

The image from a game is created by the graphic card driver and needs a monitor that is able to have a 120 MHz refresh rate.

The 3D VISION DISCOVER is the second technology for which you only need an nVidia graphic card and a pair of anaglyph glasses, with one red and cyan lens.

This creates the depth feeling through overlap images and with a gap between them, which have applied over them a series of filters colored in red or cyan.

The effect is very powerful, but the chromatic of this visualization mode doesn’t have a good quality.

The idea is very good when you want to promote an expensive product, showing to all what means a 3D image or a game.

  • You wrote “a technology that displays twice the same image”. It is not the same image though, they are at slightly different camera angles to represent the viewing angles of your right and left eyes.
