Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Formerly Known X3 Unveiled With Android 1.6 Donut
Sony Ericsson was looking forward to November 3rd, and frankly, the company made me anxious about this date too. Well, I thought that SE will unveil the Xperia X3, the company’s first Android smartphone ever, and it did but under a different name. The problem (if you can call it like this) is that Sony Ericsson renamed the Rachael UI-bound Xperia X3 into Xperia X10, which makes us believe that SE didn’t want consumers to make a confusion between it’s product and the Nokia X3 which was unveiled earlier this year.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 features a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 4-inch WVGA TFT 854 x 480 capacitive touchscreen, 8.1-megapixel camera with 16x digital zoom, autofocus, face recognition, geo-tagging photos, smile detection, image stabilization, and video recording capabilities, Android 1.6 Donut, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, MMS, Rachael UI with gesture control, auto-rotate and more, aGPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 8GB microSD card.
We’ve already seen that the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is a great media playback device, however, Engadget says that the OS is laggy and that there is almost no memory inside. Apparently, SE says that the units available for the launch event are early prototypes, and that the phone will provide a different feel when launched in H1 2010.
The Xperia X10 will come packed with lots of pre-loaded apps including YouTube, Sony Ericsson TimeScape, SE MediaScape, Android Market, Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Maps with streetview, Gtalk, Google Voice search, and Google media uploader.
At the moment it’s too early to have your final say on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. Personally, I found this phone to be very promising thanks to Android, 1GHz Snapdragon, Rachael UI, 8.1-megapixel camera, large capacitive touchscreen, and more. There is only one real problem at the moment: no multitouch capability. Too bad, it would have been an almost perfect handset.
