The Moblin team has just announced today the release of Moblin 2.1 for netbooks and nettops powered by the Intel Atom CPU. The update comes with a lot of bugs fixed, along with new features and customer requested improvements.

The new Moblin 2.1 comes with a lot of features and improvements, like better browser functionality with support for plugins, 3G data connections, better UI, Bluetooth device management, better input support for localized languages, improved stability and performance, an integrated app installer for the Moblin Garage, improved documentation and help files.

Along with all the features we’ve just listed, it does include much more and hundreds of bug fixes that will make Moblin much reliable and stable.

Most important features:

• New Internet Browser: Moblin 2.1 comes with a new, better browser, which comes with full support for plugins and addons and is much faster and reliable than the old one.
• 3G Support: Currently it supports 3G connections only with the Ericsson MBM 3G modems, though it may soon support more 3G modems.
• Clutter 1.0: Moblin 2.1 now comes with the all-new Clutter 1.0, a Moblin animation framework.
• Bluetooth Device support: Moblin is now able to discover and pair with Bluetooth devices though a toolbar panel. The devices it can connect to include input devices, keyboards, mouses, and phone, with tethering support. It can also do OBEX file transfer.
• ConnMan ( Connection Manager ): It now supports 3G, WiFi, WiMax and Ethernet and has improved reliability and performance notifications.
• Nettop support: It now supports a wide range of nettops, due to the UI scaling.
• Better Instant Messaging: The Instant Messaging support has been slightly improved, integrating with the ConnMan and supporting transparent connections to local network computers.
• More languages: Moblin 2.1 is now available in more languages, including English, Spanish, French, Brazilian Portugese, German, Finnish, Japanese, Swedish, Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified.

Moblin 2.1 also comes with Linux kernel 2.6.31, Intel Linux graphics driver 2.9, X server 1.6.4, and Mesa 7.6

The UX and SDK documentations, sample code and updates are now available in more languages too, so it will be much easier for developers to provide applications to Moblin 2.1 users.
