On October 9, NASA crashed a shuttle on the moon as part of the NASA’s Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS). The LCRSOSS main objective is to search for water on the Moon. Read on as we will talk about what could be the discovery of this century.

The shuttle that crashed on the moon was called the Centaur. It’s main purpose was to raise huge amounts of debris. That debris was photographed by two Goodrich SWIR cameras that were included in the Centaur’s payload. NASA hoped that by analyzing these photos they will be able to detect weather there is water on the Moon or not. Now… don’t imagine that the Goodrich SWIR cameras took regular photos of the debris. In fact, these cameras were specifically engineered to detect wavelength bands somewhere between what is visible to the human eye and where the thermal cameras begin working. In fact… it seems nothing like a camera. Click here to view a picture of a Goodrich SWIR camera.

After analyzing these photos, NASA made it official that there is water on the moon. And while it’s not available in huge quantities nor is it easy to access,Anthony Colaprete (chief scientist for the LCROSS mission) found that enough water on the moon was found that “The moon is alive,”.

NASA Found Evidence Water On The Moon! Could This Be The Discovery Of The Century ?

The discovery of water on the moon is vital for future lunar missions as the astronauts will be able to use that water to “live off the land”.

So, what do you think? Could the discovery of water on the moon be the discovery of the century?
