What would you chose for your N900 the usual S60 5th Edition smartphone OS or the latest OS called Maemo5? If you are confused and I know you are, you shouldn`t be, because fortunately Nokia has already decided for you (decision took at a meet-up in London last night, between members of Maemo’s marketing team and Nokia officials). Well, the winner is Maemo 5.
Nokia N900 testers said that they are very surprised by the enthusiastic response to the Maemo 5 OS and that the services and apps are much above the mature S60 platform.
According to “The Really Mobile Project”, it seems that Nokia will drop its S60 OS from all N-series consumer devices in favor of Maemo 5. You should know that the transition won’t be instantaneous to anyone with an N900, but the N-Series handsets which already have the S60 will survive until the point that Nokia can make the full switch, which is 2012.
