Rumor: Apple tablet PC postponed until 2H10, because of a new OLED model
Which one should I start? With the bad news or the good news?
Well, let`s start with the bad ones. It seems that our long expected Apple tablet PC launch was postponed from an initial March lunch to the second half of 2010, according to DIGITIMES. The Taiwanese newspaper believes that this delay is generated by the fact that there will now be two tablet models: the 10.6-inch version we’ve already heard about and a new one with a 9.7-incher OLED screen made by LG.
Apple and LG? How it`s this possible? Well, nothing is confirmed, yet, but there’s been some rumors for a while now, such as Apple and LG had signed a $500 million panel supply agreement, on a five-year period.
The price is unspecified for now, but I have some ideas: since the 9.7-inch OLED panels are currently priced at about US$500, which is about 30% of the device’s total cost, then the tablet PC should have a cost of about US$1,500-1,700. Meanwhile, the 10.6-inch LCD panel, keeps its expected price, which is somewhere between $800-1,000.

Apple Tablet Delayed for OLED Upgrade

I think in order for this apple tablet / iSlate to work it has to have a full operation system. There is no point in having a iPod touch with a 10 inch screen. The days of carrying a boom box are over.
