Stolen iPhones from Belgium, are sold on black market in Russia
Thousands of pieces were stolen from a Belgian warehouse, by an ingenious method and they were transported in Russia and sold on black market. According to the source, Russian Federation has been chose because iPhone 3GS is not launched in Russia and the request for this hardware is high. Another reason is that black market, with many devices at low price, is very active. Interpol took the case, and received from the retailer the list of IMEI numbers, and these devices will be probably locked based on IMEI numbers. Black marketers, not exactly bastions of honesty themselves, aren’t likely to share this information with their less-informed customers, potentially leaving them in the lurch.
Cult of Mac gave to potentially buyers the advice to avoid the iPhones stolen and sold on black market. The may have the surprise to take a locked device, and also to pay for a stolen device, and the money will not be recovered.
