BlackBerry Outage Affects Users Across South and North America
After the Sprint Error 2112 which cause a SMS outage among the carrier’s subscribers, now we have a BlackBerry outage across America. Lots of users reports issues with their BlackBerry Internet Service and RIM officially acknowledged the problem saying that this is their fault not the carriers’ fault. BIS users from all over North and South America are now experiencing problems in receiving emails on their handsets, however, phone, data and other services work fine.
According to Rogers spokesman, the BES accounts are fine, but they are aware of the BlackBerry outage. At the moment RIM is working hard to restore the BIS functionality to its users even if it could take a while. We don’t know if there is a connection between Sprint and BlackBerry outages, but this is very unlikely as users from Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile reported issues with their BIS.

Edit #1 @11:01 ET: The BlackBerry outage seems to be “different” depending on location and carrier as some don’t have data and SMS or whatever combination between services. Still no information about when will it be fixed.

I’m from Bismarck, North Dakota, but on the road in Crosby, ND (about 6 miles from Canada). My CrackBerry is serviced by Verizon. At first, I thought it was a range issue, but now I know…glad I don’t have any shares of RIM to watch them go down today…

VZW (Verizon Wireless, Upstate NY, USA):
I have two POP3 e-mail accounts configured on RIM9550 (Storm2; one work related using a dedicated in-house e-mail server, other is hotmail.
So far today (Dec 17, 2009) I am not receiving any e-mails from either account.
Earlier this morning, I was unable to send any e-mail on either account. However, I just sent e-mail from mobile (RIM9550 using hotmail account) to myself (at same hotmail address) and this IS showing up at Hotmail server (as viewed through web browser using PC) but still NOTHING at mobile.
Similarly, just resent (from mobile) previously failed e-mail using work account and this also was delivered to the (work e-mail) server then properly forwarded to my OUTLOOK account on PC.
Summary: earlier this morning, no e-mail (couldn’t send or receive) through my mobile. Now (~11:00 hours EST, USA) it appears I can send e-mail from mobile using both accounts. However, still not receiving e-mail on either account at mobile.
Phone, data and internet OK.
UPDATE:
BIS restored (here in Upstate NY) as of ~ 12:54 p.m. EST. Appears to be functioning normally.

I am in Minneapolis, MN. I have a blackberry through Sprint. Everything else works, internet, Facebook, Twitter, can send/receive texts, but NO Email! Frustrating as some of my work is done through my phone as I am not always near a PC.

Fresno, Ca. Service out again. It was out yesterday along with everyone else, but when the problem was fixed the service seemed fine although email “dribbled” in the rest of the day coming in one at a time hours after it should have arrived. Now this morning it is out again, and I’m not reading about any new problems. Hope it’s not just mine now.

Seattle, Verizon. Email no, phone, internet OK. No email since 2200 Tues 12/15. Verizon say BB is working on it, BB tech support says there is no outage (877) 255-2377. The stonewall by BB is BS. If they’d just say we have a problem, I’d be OK. As it is, great frustration.
My Blackberry Pearl 8130 has not been receiving email on 12/17 or 12/18. I have Verizon wireless & called them but they said to check with RIM. This is really frustrating because there doesn’t seem to be any updates today (12/18) on what’s going on with this & when it will be fixed.

we have 2 blackberry servers on our network with 187 users and 15 users experienced problems today , we have contacted RIM and they claim that its a network problem , what a waste of time!!!!

i’m with alltel. for the past 24 hours i have had no internet or sms. i’m really considering on saving money to purchase a different phone and throwing my blackberry out. i got it do to my hearing loss all i can do is text or message anyone when it’s down i’m very isolated from everyone. i don’t understand why it’s always going down. if the product ain’t good then wouldn’t it be logical to give us another option at the cost we paid for it so that we the customer isn’t constantly worried left out of loop when these outages happen. seems logical since none of the other phones seem to have issues with outages….
