Rackspace Down Again, Users Telling Their Outage Frustration Via Twitter

Rackspace, the popular cloud hosting company, is currently experiencing an outage today taking down numerous websites around the web. After a short amount of time when we didn’t see any outages, November-December hadn’t been a good period for many companies including T-Mobile, RIM, Sprint, Gmail, and others. The Rackspace has affected lots of powerful sites like TechCrunch, Robert Scoble, Laughing Squid, some Tumblr domains among others.

The cause of the Rackspace outage is a networking issue, and the hosting company’s engineers are working hard to restore access to hundreds of users. At first it was believed that there was a power issue at the Dallas Forth Worth datacenter, but Rackspace acknowledged the problem and clarified that this is a networking failure.

As of now the issue hasn’t been entirely fixed, but we’re waiting for more information. The good and the bad thing is that today it’s Saturday and the Holidays are coming which makes me think that there are only a few people working to solve the problem, but I’m sure that Rackspace will finally solve it.

Let us know if the Rackspace outage has affected you and if your domains are up and running.

  • Gmail has been down for me the past couple of days, not even pop is working for me!

  • I am a Rackspace customer who’s business was affected by this latest outage. We also pay Racskpace extra for a constant Monitoring service that is supposed to immediately notify me by email or phone call if our server becomes inaccessible at any time. I was HIGHLY disturbed to find out that Rackspace actually SUPPRESSED these notifications from being sent to their customers for some strange reason. Therefore, we had to find out that our websites were inaccessible for nearly 2 hours from our own customers! This is yet another failure by Rackspace to adequately inform and notify customers of outages that impact their businesses, even when they are PAYING extra for that service!
