CES will be the beginning and a launching ramp for many producers involved in mobile phones industry. At this event, Palm will present its latest operating system, webOS 1.3.5, and a major improvement in terms of speed, stability, multitasking, Wi-Fi performance and better battery management. CEO Jon Rubinstein said that after this major release, webOS will be a platform that will attract developers and thousands of apps will be available for Palm devices. According to the Rubinstein two major things will ensure the success of Palm:
The first thing is the full control of the platform, both hardware and software, fact that increases the speed of adopting new technologies and standards in comparison to Palm`s competitors, resulting an unified and standard platform, avoiding the fragmentation and complications in apps development. The second advantage talks about a better positioning in the adoption and migration of the content in the cloud. From the first launch of Palm Pre, the company provided 8 major OS updates, over the air, each including major improvements and new features like support for LinkedIn and Yahoo or updates for messaging and email.
For the future, Jon Rubinstein has a totally different vision than major manufacturers: to build a portfolio of really great products that cover all segments of the market, instead of having many apps which do the same thing and to expand their coverage by signing new contracts with carriers.
