Broadcom is a popular name among OEMs, providing different hardware components for IT industry. Now Broadcom’s Crystal HD was revealed as an option to be implemented with Intel Atom CPU platform, to provide near flawless HD video to the user. The chipset might be watched as a rival for NVidia Ion platform and the battle for mobile devices market has a new competitor.

Broadcom BCM70015 will be an option for netbooks based on the new Intel Atom processor platform, providing a low power, low cost solution for quality playback and video streaming. Broadcom Crystal HD will support multi-format: H.264/AVC, MPEG-2, VC-1, WMV9, MPEG-4, DivX®, Xvid and AVS, will be able to playback HD content, will provide support for Flash Player 10.1, WMP12, and support for proprietary and open source players.

The chipset will work very well with Intel Atom N450 and Intel NM10 Express, providing a very powerful solution for netbooks and entry-level PCs, combining  computing capability with compact design. With this technology, the hardware that can play HD content will become more accessible and by adopting as a mass standard and costs for manufacture products that integrate it, will drop very much. We really need this kind of solutions, we need competition and the mobile computing soon will be a need, thanks to a more intensive use of computers and increasing interest for the internet.
