Blackberry outage December 22, service down again
It seems like the Blackberry service is down again nationwide and people can’t read their emails or use the BBM ( Blackberry messenger ). Until now there have been reports about an outage on T-Mobile and Sprint networks in the US, but also on Rogers in Canada.
The Blackberry internet service has been down for more than 2 and a half hours now and some say it could take up to one day to fix.
Some users even report they can’t use the internet at all on they Blackberry smartphones, which is way more frustrating than just the BBM and email issues.
People ran crazy on all social media channels, including Twitter, Facebook, hundred of messages per minute being posted about the Blackberry issue.
Unfortunately, it’s not the first time Blackberry users encounter this type of outage. The BIS ( Blackberry internet service ) has been down less than a week ago.

Blackberry Internet Service MEssenger Fail
Neither my Palm Pixi nor my Wife’s Android can access any data services on Sprint’s network. I think the problem is much more wide spread than Blackberry services.
I’m in New York using Verizon Blackberry, and phone works but have no internet access at all. Same for my wife.
No access at all to your wife? Maybe if you weren’t constantly checking your Blackberry…
blackberry pearl in kansas (sprint) will not connect to the internet.
I’m in Idaho, I haven’t had email or any browser access for over 6 hours, but phone works. It won’t even allow broadband connection through my WI-FI at home.
Sprint/BB user in Phoenix; Internet down for 4 hours; no internet, no email
I’m in Kentucky, as of midnight no email and no Internet.
blackberry curve through sprint….no email…no internet…phone and text working just fine…

BB / Verizon / Dallas Fort Worth: no internet apps working since approx 15:30 or so. phone and sms fine.
Verizon Wireless CSR says nationwide problem. No ETR provided. Internet, Email and messenger services have been down for over 6 hours in Miami
AT&T BlackBerry in the Nashville TN area has been completely hosed since 6 PM Central. Started noticing problems earlier in the afternoon.
Seems to be a complete failure of BIS. No data services that use BIS are online, even through wi-fi.
No email, no BB messenger, no Google Maps/Latitude, no mobile web browsing, no Facebook.
I use the Bolt browser, and when it is set to wi-fi only, it works. The phone works fine.
In Seattle, internet down since 4PM Pacific time. Text and pone are normal.
It’s midnight in Michigan and my phone is still not working. I have sprint/nextel. Cannot get email or internet service. So frustrating!
Sunny California – Verizon BB down for five hours so far (phone & SMS okay)… So nice to find the blogs to know that the heck is going on and stop obsessing!

In Calgary, Canada with Rogers. No email or internet access at all since just after 4pm MST. RIM and Rogers have always been super fast in the past to fix things up… This must be MAJOR!
I am on Verizon Network with my Blackberry. Internet and email is still down. I thought it was only me.. and was planning to resend service books to my phone and i can’t get into my blackberry internet serice website.. This sucks…
Posting this from my VZW BlackBerry Storm. BlackBerry Internet Service is down. No internet, emails, or BBM for me for some time now.
However, I have been able to surf the web via Opera Mini. I don’t know if this is because it runs on the Verizon EVDO data or not.
Ontario Canada and no internet or email services at all on my 4 hour old BB Tour! Grrrr and here I thought it was some stupid setting that was messed up!
Chicago – Sprint Blackberry Curve service down. No Email or Internet since around 8pm CST.

This is the second time within the past week this service has gone down.. i think our service providers need to start issuing credits for us. cause they have no problem taking on late fees to your bill if its a day late. but who holds them responsible for their errors..
What is interesting is that when I called Sprint and told them what was going on they told me that they didn’t see any issues and couldn’t help me. What is that?? It seemed to go in phases, first BBM, then Internet, then email. But you are correct, we should get some sort of credit. If we didn’t use these apps, we would just have normal phones with normal plans.

I have Verizon and about 30minutes ago my bbm was working but now its not,however my internet has been out for the past two hours.My friend whose on sprint has been having the same problem as everyone else.
ATT Network on blackberry 8900 internet, e-mail and BBM stopped working at 5pm today
SMS, Email works but no internet since 1700. T-Mobile
Tour 9630 through Bell in Ontario, Canada. No internet, emails, BB Messenger, BB Groups or Live Messenger since about 5:00 this afternoon. Phone calls and text still works.
Have not had email or BBM sense 15:30 est.
Service still out.
Hope they get it up and running real soon.
I know it is not T Mobile’s fault it is the back bone and server that is causing all the issues.

I’ve experienced the same outage with BIS on Sprint in Idaho. If you need internet from your BB, download Opera Mini. Opera is still working great on my BB Curve, even though BIS is down. I have no affiliation with Opera. Just find it odd that it works and BIS doesn’t.
In Omaha, on Sprint network: text works fine. No email, no internet, no Twitter–first noticed outage at 9:30.

In Ontario on Telus…I was ready to pack my phone up and exchange it for a new one til I found this forum! I even went as far as wiping everything on my phone and restoring it, thinking my OS had died. I can finally sleep in peace lol. I hope RIM fixes this asap….we need our bb’s!
e-mail on my world phone has not worked since dec 19. this is a very long outage. maybe blackberry should refund when this happens.
Blackberry Bold 9000 on the Rogers network down. No internet, no bbm, not sure about email.
I live in the DC Metro area and I can not access the internet or e-mail…. been that way for at least 4 hours now.
Both mine & my husband’s blackberry’s are having internet & bbm issues…we are from the Bay Area.
Im here in Ohio and its 2:30 in the morning and my internet, bbm, email, facebook or any other data usage is not working. Been like this since 5 pm this evening here…Hope it gets fixed asap
Blackberry Tour Verizon – Chicago, no internet/bbm for about 8 hours now. Talked to 6-8 people w the same problem.
since 3pm 12/22 i have not had internet on my 8520. tried sending a pic to my gf and realized that MMS is down for me too. so right now i have no internet and no MMS, yahoo, BBM..nothing.
even tried turning my phone off and leaving the battery out for an hour. didnt help….so i guess its another outage….i blame all these teenagers out of school prolly flooding the data waves lol
hi…. reporting from Panamá City – central America….4 bb’s @ my house…. 2 of them can browse… 2 can’t … all 4 can’t use the bb msn… and none of them receive or send e-mails.

with rogers in toronto…email, internet, bbm not working since around 4pm. wifi not working as well. phone and sms’s working fine though…talking abt email, got one right now :p…slowly but surely…we need a hobby other than our bb’s haha
I’m on sprint in texas and the phone can’t find the blackberry network, only the sprint pcs network. I was using the blackberry browser when it went down. Apparently the BB browser, email, and other BB specific web apps like myspace and facebook require the blackberry network. The sprint pcs network still appears on the network list and opera mini can access the web still. So I assume it is only web apps designed specifically for the blackberry that are affected by this. I assume that it is not the carriers that are responsible, its RIM that is. My suggestion to all is to download another web browser that is not dependent on the BB network whenever you can just in case this happens again. I got lucky that I downloaded opera mini a while back. It is still working. I am using it at this very moment. It is the only thing that works. No BB browser, no BB email, no BB myspace app, and no BB facebook app. It is all not working. Anyone with opera mini installed should try it and see if it is still working for them. I would like to know. For hours I thought my phone was messed up until I stumbled accross this message board looking for answers and seen that at this very same time others are having the exact same problems.
Blackberry in Toronto Canada has been down all day. No access to internet, bbm, email or any possible internet functions(shazam, app world, etc.)Not happy.

Dec 23rd 8:20am my blackberry internet has been down since yesterday evening through rogers, and is still out, super frusterating since I was trying to get directions on the road last night
Our internet conncetivity is down too – on both Palm Pre and Blackberry 8830. Getting no gmail via app on BB. Noticed it at 10pm cst last night and still a problem as of 7:45 am cst on the 23rd.

I had the same issues on the 22nd. Internet down, BBM down and Facebook app. Everything was working fine the next day when I re-registered my BB through the host routing map. But the Facebook app doesn’t update me anymore. I can still read peoples posts on it but it doesn’t inform me if anyone replys. I even uninstalled it and reinstalled it but still nothing. I am in Northeastern Ohio, Storm 1 Verizon Wireless.
