Last time we talked about the next-gen iPhone, Apple’s cellphone was unofficially confirmed to become a smartphone. All iPhone fanboys in the world will bash me for this, but this device is not a smartphone. A “smart” phone is a device which can do multitasking, a feature that the iPhone doesn’t have at the moment, but like aforementioned, Eldar Murtazin tweeted that this boy will finally become a man next summer. Anyway among other features sources claim that Apple has ordered 5-megapixel CIS units for the iPhone 4G.

Digitimes reports that OmniVision Technologies has received orders from Apple of up to 40-45 millions of CMOS units. In 2009 OmniVision Technologies shipped 20-21 millions CMOS units to Apple, but next year the story will be different and the confirmation comes from the manufacturer who reported $8.1 million earnings in the second quarter of the fiscal year.

These numbers only include shipments for the iPhone as OmniVision has shipped about 65 millions CIS units to Apple in 2009, counting the orders for the iPod. Apple’s iPhone has become the most popular phone in the US and with rumors saying that the next-gen iPhone will feature multitasking, iPhone OS 4.0, and a 5-megapixel camera among others we can say that the iPhone’s popularity and sales will increase. I wonder what will happen if Apple will not extend AT&T’s exclusivity deal over the iPhone. Imagine that!

  • Hi there people, I just wanted to holla and tell you that I found a great site. For those of you who don’t want to spend ridiculous amounts of money on pay-per-view fees to watch UFC 108 online FREE in full HD. Better then spending $55.95 on it eh?
