XO-3, the 3rd generation of OLPC laptop was revealed with radical design
OLPC announced the 3rd generation of the laptop for poor countries, originally created to be delivered to children for accesible and modern education . Now OLPC has nothing to do with third world countries, new laptops coming with a radically new design. XO-3 consists in an 8.5 x 11” touchscreen, looking very much to a tablet pc, including inductive charging technology , a Pixel Qi screen powered and 800MHz processor. Previous versions of the OLPC hardware will be available on the market starting 2010.
XO-1.5, powered by a VIA processor running both Windows and Linux, will be released in January 2010, for $200, the price of XO-1.5 being established according to DRAM and FLASH price.
XO-1.75, will come one year later, for $150, keeping the same industrial design, protected with rubber on sides, is a 8.9” touch-sensitive display, powered by an ARM processor from Marvell, compatible with x86 design.
XO- 3 will come in 2012 and it will be the real $100 computer, all being possible thanks to the latest technologies and innovations in computers industry. New designs, cheap and low power hardware will make possible this thanks to low production costs and energy efficiency.
