After the smartphone revolution in 2009, it seems that actual wireless broadband speeds are not enough and it`s time for the mobile network revolution. In a recent snapshot, an A9292 WiMAX phone from HTC will be soon added to Sprint`s offers. HTC manufactured a WiMAX phone before, and now will probably come with something new, based on the previous experience.  Sprint recently rumored that will make WiMAX available also on handsets, and the first 4G handset will run Google Android.

It`s typical for HTC to launch these goodies with Android OS, after the previous 4G phone was based on Windows Mobile 6.5.  With the versatility of Android and innovative concepts from HTC, the device will start interest for its access speeds and probably it will be used as modem to access the internet on MIDs. WiMAX opens a wide range of possibilities for carriers to offers better plans, with higher speeds, unlimited traffic, an improved network capacity, able to handle more connections, without network congestions and connectivity problems.

  • It was obvious HTC would be ahead of everyone with their 4G Wimax enabled phone. They already have a Wimax phone in asia, so what’s the big deal? Did you expect Sprint to launch their 4G platform without a mobile phone?

It’s funny how people don’t understand a company is as good as its mgmt. and the Sprint of today is not the same Sprint in 2007. Policy and its effects lag one another by about two years and that is how long it has taken Sprint’s new mgmt to do its organic cleansing and put away $6 billion in cash while purchasing VM and iPCS in November of 2009. During the latter quarter they also infused another billion plus dollars in Clearwire, increasing their stake to close to 57%.

Sprint’s investment in Wimax will save the company billions of dollars in Backhaul fees it pays to the major telcos annually. It will also ensconce the company to reap the rewards of growth in ARPU emanating from Data without clogging its networks.
