PSP is a great device, but has some problems and, according to Sony, one of them is the piracy, that’s killing it. Sony is trying to get developers, but there are some issues, especially that the games don’t sell very well and it’s not worth for them, due to piracy.

According to Sony, the biggest problem is that the games are pirated and downloaded illegally, but if we take a closer look, it’s also their fault too. The developers program is extremely complex and costly, which keeps developers away. And if we sum that with the piracy problem, we have a lose-lose situation. Because of the expensive developer program, the resulting games are expensive too, so there are not many PSP users willing to buy them.

Sonys problem is that it blames everything on piracy and does not try to fix the issue by itself. If developing games was easier and cheaper, then developers would not run away from it. Of course piracy would still be a problem, but cheaper games means more buyers and less piracy.

Other problem is that they don’t have a store of their own, where people can buy and download music, movies and TV shows, that could lower the prices and force the users to use it.

Until Sony tries and manages to fix this and more issues, the PSP will fail grandiosely.
