Microsoft Says It’s Not Internet Explorer’s Fault That Google Was Hacked

A few days ago McAfee published a detailed report which showed that Google has been hacked due to a serious security glitch in Internet Explorer. Microsoft’s response followed soon after and the Redmond guys mostly say that “if you switch to other browsers there are bigger and worse security holes.” Although Cliff Evans, chief of IE security in the UK, didn’t play down talks that Internet Explorer caused Google to get hacked, he said that “the risk is minimal.”

Mr. Evans says that other browsers have bigger security holes and there are more problems with Mozilla’s Firefox than with IE. He said “even if you have Internet Explorer,” you would be required to visit a malicious website and it’s not like all IE6 users visited such websites. The reality is that Internet Explorer is the most used browser in the world and personally, I think it’s the worst. IE8 should have been great, but it sucks and instead of patching the browser, Microsoft decided to put the blame on other browsers.

Microsoft’s security man advises users not to switch to Firefox because they would open to more and major security vulnerabilities, but in fact you should switch to any other browser. IE is old and dusty, and Microsoft needs us to show them that we’re aware of its problems.
