Earlier this morning we reported that Twitter is down because of the numerous tweets about the new Haiti earthquake (actually, an aftershock). However, we were wrong to say that because the Twitter team announced that the outage was caused by a backup system problem which led to a big number of errors and issues. I can’t remember the last time when Twitter was down for 90 minutes in a row and hopefully we won’t experience this again.

Again we’d like to say that we’re sorry to have said that the cause of the outage was the high number of Haiti-related tweets. Most of the tweets come from the US, but most Americans were asleep at that hour so it wasn’t their fault. Hey, Twitter team: be more careful next time. We love you, but we’ll punish you each time we get the opportunity!
