Stantum Presents Slate PC Concept
Stantum announced a Slate Pc concept, multitouch, ultra sensitive and pressure-simulating resistive touchscreen technology. This Slate PC is a hacked-up Dell mini 10.
It seems that many Slate PC devices are ponderous and this isn’t a strong point. Maybe the weight is due to the glass and it’s more costly that the other parts of the Slate PC. Stantum has a standard mini 10 inches display. Instead of a keyboard there is a touchscreen LCD and it may seems that is a heavy device but surprising is facile and very comfortable. The device isn’t prepared for the mass market but in the future it won’t be difficult for a producer to add an Atom-based to back the display.
Another note about this LCD is that it isn

’t sure if Stantum will choose a high-quality part for its Slate PC or will protect the LCD with a resistive coverage, but there is a weak point toward the regular Dell mini 10 LCDs: the Stantum presents a cheap and pixilated display. A Slate PC like the one from Stantum doesn’t have a display protection from the objects that can scratch the screen and it will be more confident to have a scratchproof glass than an insecure one.
The Slate PC is almost like the mobile demo that was at MWC a year ago, but it has lost a tad of the pixel-perfect sensitivity. Stantum is known for the multitouch technology and this device is the perfect touchscreen experience. Between its strong points are 10-finger multitouch, also recognize multi-finger gestures and it has a pressure sensitivity that depends on how many times a finger has been pressed down. It’s a pity that the Stantum’s software doesn’t had an evolution and the “perfect” touchscreen can’t be use at its maximum capacity including artistic or limited gaming applications. With Microsoft all that we want to do on the Slate PC is done with a single point of contact at the time or two points at the time. So there it will be a question why it’s so important the 10-finger pressure-multitouch sensitive when it won’t be necessary to use it?
