Microsoft Arc Keyboard out soon
Microsoft is going to launch a new keyboard that is going to ‘redesign our way of thinking about keyboards’. It’s called the Arc Keyboard, a small and compact gadget. Some time ago we would refer to our working area back at home, the place in our home that had the p.c., our ‘home office’. Now the home office is every where, in the kitchen, in the living room, in the bedroom, in the bed and so on. The Arc Keyboard is designed to follow you wherever you have , or you want to work in the house. You can still be productive, have all the things you want in a keyboard, one that’s not in your laptop. That’s the reason why it’s so compact.
Microsoft’s industrial designers were thinking ‘ok, we want a keyboard that goes anywhere in the house’. So they decided to look for inspiration in the every day object that you can find in the house, things that you are happy to look at. They came up with that slick, light bended look, very simple and complete. It’s a great size for a media-key keyboard, something that you can hide in the coffee-table and pull out when you need it great for the living room.
The designers also looked at the way people and use the keyboard, it’s often a kick-back scenario, get comfortable..sit on the couch so they added that curve(dome) to fit in your lap better.
An original idea by Microsoft is the way it connects to the p.c. On the back it has, what they call a ‘Nano Transmitter’ that looks like a regular USB cable, but without the cable, just the head. And it attaches to the back via a small magnet, similar to the way a coin sticks to a magnet.
To save space, instead of installing the regular 4 arrow buttons they placed on the right side one button that that tilts in 4 directions
It’s going to be lunched in february in USA at the cost of 59.95$, and in april world wide.
