HTC Magic is the second handset after the T-Mobile G1 that will use the Google Android platform, and it is safe to say that its launch is eagerly awaited by the “tech” community.Their specs are similar, excepting the QWERTY keyboard that will make HTC Magic lighter and slimmer. Magic will have a 3.2 inch LCD screen with a HVGA resolution of 320×480, autofocus 3.2 MP camera, Bluetooth connectivity with Enhanced Data Rate and Wi-Fi : IEEE 802.11 b/g Internet compatibility. It has 512 MB of available internal memory, but that can be extended through the use of microSD card. An advantage the soon to be released HTC Magic over G1 is the option to install applications from Android Market.
While the specifications were known for a while, nobody expected it be available so soon. The official release date was May 5, but this morning Vodafone Spain posted a timer on their website counting down to the official release of Magic. It seems that today, starting with 1600 hours (local time) HTC Magic will be officially launched for the users of Vodafone Spain. The handset is free with the applicable contract with Vodafone UK. The bad news is that the rates have been described as “outrageous” by the local community.
Although there are lots of people that want to get an Android powered phone as fast as possible, I feel that there is little use in applying to these exaggerated rates.
