Google Swine Flu Map Now Sadly Features New Zealand
I will skip the part where I tell you that there is a Swine Flu pandemic all over the world, and that Google has developed a map which tracks the H1N1 virus. Now, let’s get back to what concerns us – New Zealand has been added to the Swine Flu map as 10 students from the Rangitoto College have been identified as likely to be infected with the H1N1 virus.
Rangitoto College is New Zealand’s largest secondary school, and the CDC in collaboration with Google, have integrated New Zealand on the Swine Flu map tracking due to the reported H1N1 cases. New Zealand’s Deputy Director of Public Health has announced that ten students from Rangitoto College have been diagnosed with Swine Flu’s Influenza A which has killed 80 people in Mexico while it has infected other 20 in the United States.
The 10 Rangitoto College students were part of a group of 22 students who visited Mexico over the past few weeks. The students returned home on Saturday and fourteen of them presented Swine Flue symptoms. However, ten of them are infected, while one is in hospital and the others are under quarantine at home.
The Rangitoto students are not the only students who went to Mexico as their colleagues from the Northcote College and Westlake Girls High School visited Mexico a few weeks ago. There were 364 passengers that were boarded to the flight Los Angeles- New Zealand flight, but so far none of them have been tested. New Zealand officials are trying to track down all of them and to see if they are infected.
A few hours ago we reported that Tamiflu can prevent the Swine Flu and the FDA along with UN’s WHO have approved this antiviral drug to treat the pandemic. According to New Zealand officials, they have about 800,000 doses of Tamiflu and hopefully this is enough to cope with the Swine Flu pandemic.
