You don’t have to be a genius to tell that RIM is working on other BlackBerry smartphones. They cannot sit on the bench and let others get all the highlights. Well, already know and it has been confirmed that by the end of the year RIM will release the BlackBerry Storm 2 which will definitely feature both 3G and WiFi. However, this is not the only planned cellphone – it has been rumored that BlackBerry will launch a cellphone which is similar to the Curve and it was codenamed Driftwood.

BlackBerry Onyx

However, here is a picture of that cellphone which has a new name now: the BlackBerry Onyx which will be a part of the BB 96xx series although I am not sure about that. A couple of months ago we’ve spotted the BlackBerry Niagara which was rumored to become the 9630, but Onyx and Niagara are not the same.

Well, it is almost clear that the smartphone will go to T-Mobile and it will feature 3G, WiFi, a 3.2-megapixel camera, built-in GPS, a full QWERTY keyboard, a 480 x 360 screen, an optical trackpad, and a battery cover made of carbon fiber. The BlackBerry Driftwood or Onyx should be available as of September, but we don’t know the pricing or anything. This is great news for T-Mobile subscribers as this is the first 3G BlackBerry smartphone which goes in the carrier’s back yard.

Stay tuned, we will tell you more as soon as we get our hands on some information. Driftwood or Onyx? 89xx or 96xx series? Hmm… hard to decide.
