Microsoft Filed Patent For A Motion-Sensing Controller Dubbed The Magic Wand
Although Microsoft hasn’t confirmed this yet, I am sure that they are working on a motion-sensing controller device. It has been discovered that Microsoft has filed a patent for a device codenamed “Magic Wand” which is a device with an architecture that is based on one or multiple sensors from a collection of sensors which all together can recognize gesture/motion/orientation connections. Allegedly, the Magic Wand can “issue” a command in order to update a “state of an environmental component” as a result of the gesture/motion/orientation.

The Magic Wand patent was filed back in 2007 by J Allard, Chief Experience Officer and Chief Technology Officer for Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices Division (that means Xbox and Zune division). Although at first Microsoft didn’t believe that the Nintendo Wii will be such a hit, it seems like Microsoft has finally realized how “cool” is a motion-sensing controller. Well, Microsoft is developing one now, it’s shaped like a wand, and it might feature “biometrics” but this hasn’t been determined yet.
We have been expecting this since Nintendo released Wii, however, a Magic Wand is rather surprising now as Microsoft bought ZCam, the manufacturer or a certain type of camera controller systems which are very different from the features emphasized in the patent application. Well, the patent was filed before Microsoft bought ZCam, and I think that we will find out more at the E3 conference which is just a couple of weeks away. I am waiting anxiously to see what Microsoft has prepared for us.
