The Sims 3 Leaked On Torrent Websites Two Weeks Before Its Launch
It can’t get any better than this for gamers: The Sims 3 video game has been leaked on torrents two weeks before its official release. This is just unbelievable, as a few weeks ago, the an unfinished version of the Wolverine movie was leaked on torrents about 30 days before its premiere. According to Electronic Arts and Maxis, the game will officially be released on Junde 2, and for the moment none of them reacted on The Sims 3 leak on torrents.

We can say that hackers and pirates have won another battle against publishers and distributors, and this will have to hurt EA a lot. For the moment we can’t tell for sure if the game is real as the packed/unpacked leaks are sized somewhere near 5GB. The small size of the game makes us think that this is not the actual game, but maybe it’s an unfinished version of The Sims 3 life simulation game.
Due to the fact that The Sims 3 leaked on the Internet, the sales of the game will probably go down dramatically even if this is just an unfinished version. Should we trust hackers and pirates? Will piracy ever come to an end? Well, it seems like many users trust pirates, and piracy won’t end too soon.
P.S. From what I’ve read, the game is real and many are playing it right now.

I disagree completly. Why would sales go down? Infact most research really points to the other way, look at X-Men, that leaked and yet still sold extremly well. Saying the sales will go down without any.. research is just silly.
Crazzzzy..
What a hooo har. I cant believe the game has been released onto the net. But… come on… Maxis has it coming to be honest. They may be able to play around with Sims lives, but messing around with the games release date has reallly put people off and given them reason to find other ways of downloading it!
Ah here come the good old… justifications for stealing.
1. It’s an American made Game so its ok to steal from them.
2. If I like the game I steal I will go out and buy it. (though 99 percent of the games I steal I say I hate them just so I can justify myself.)
3.I wasn’t going to buy it anyway (the very meaning of stealing)
4. They don’t lose money cause they did lose a physical sale of the game! (aka I steal anything that isn’t nailed to the ground)
5. I steal an unfinished or flawed version of the game then go on a rant about how the game sucks.
6. I attempt to steal a game but end up getting a virus and blame the game makers instead of my own stupidity.
7. I’m a kid/teen who doesn’t understand how the economy works.
8. I’m showing it to the man! (Yes your robin hood..)
I would gladly hunt down people like this if EA would hire me to do so…
@Piratekiller
What has where it is made got to do with anything. just another lame attempt at trying to demonstrate antiAmericanism where there isn’t any.
“Hunt down people like this” what will you do, hit them with your rattle. Grow up.
Personally I think EA asked for this by stiffing the fans when they put back the release date just to screw more profit out of them.
Just finished downloading, going to play it tonight! whoop whoop!
(Piratekiller) Your Gay SHUT UP!!! how you gonna hunt down those ppl when you stealing them yourself retard! lmfao
Me too.
I had it installed and running within 2 hours of it’s release on Usenet.
I can assure everyone that it is real and the full game with nothing missing.
It has no viruses/malware of any sort.
Checked with a fully up to date Kaspersky AV
I don’t really think EA is gonna be hurt, sales-wise. At least not as drastically as one would think. A lot of Sims fans pre-ordered The Sims 3 and if I’m correct, those pre-orders had a non-refundable down payment that would make it a shame not to buy the game anymore (at least, that’s how it is in our shops here).
And don’t forget the Collector’s Edition, which offers a lot of stuff that may not be in the torrent download. Not only that, there are a lot of truly loyal Sims fans who are still buying the game even though it’s up for download. I myself am downloading the game right now, but I’m still going to buy the Collector’s Edition when it comes out.
I wish they had pushed through with the February release date, and their reason for pushing it to June just because they wanted “additional time to build the worldwide marketing campaign” is not exactly an excuse people would accept just like that.
I had pre-ordered Spore months before it came out. a couple weeks before release, i played the pirated leak on my friends computer…absolutely hated it, was nothing that i expected it to be. promptly drove to gamestop and cencelled my pre-order and that was that. The one time piracy actually helped me out. (indirectly)
I paid for a copy of this game. That was supposed to be here months ago. It’s not. But I am going to play it today thanks to the interwebz. Shows EA right for delaying one of those most anticipated games of the year.
I thought Spore was rubbish too, I got bored with it so quickly.
Most overated nonsense in a long time. Glad I didn’t buy it.
@PirateKiller, haven’t paid for a game in years, PC, Xbox, Xbox 360, or otherwise. Come get me.
Tracking you IP right now. Oh and your no better then a Terrorist.
Funny how I’m not the one stealing and yet I am told that I need to grow up.. I point out the “reasons” why people steal things and yet all I get is homophobic garbage said back to me. Yet like my friend said, you can’t argue with people like you , their on the same level with terrorist, they can’t be reasoned with.
I would reply to the other weak-minded responses but I first need to hire somebody from the CIA to understand what the hell half you even said. “U gay, ppl pirate!” My god…
>>Tracking you IP right now. Oh and your no better then a Terrorist.
Awwhh man, I’m scared now. I’m gonna delete my 860GB of torrented games now
In other news, I may be slowly killing the software companies but I’m sure helping the harddisk companies.
‘Personally I think EA asked for this by stiffing the fans when they put back the release date just to screw more profit out of them.’
Ok, you’ll have to explain that. How does /delaying/ putting out a game increase profits. You’re really reaching. Putting out a game /sooner/ would increase profits. Sounds like you’re doing everything you can to rationalize stealing.
@piratekiller
you won’t find any homophobic rants or simplistic defenses of pirating here. you will find, however, that i will call you out on how ridiculous it is for you to choose to equate software pirates and terrorists, as if they have such a clear and distinct relation to each other. if you really need me to point out the variety of ways these two groups are different, you aren’t in a position to make such claims. further, the rampant piracy and subsequent successful release of the new wolverine movie points out holes in your “justifications for stealing” list. despite a prerelease the movie was a success; the feedback they got from the released version granted the production team an opportunity to tweak the movie before it hit theaters; many people that downloaded an illegal copy still went out and saw it in theaters. i think you should focus your energy on trying to understand that the “system” the gaming industry is built upon might be flawed — that there’s a disconnect between a $50.00 price point and what most of the game’s demographic actually can afford. so, sir, you say that pirates don’t understand the economy — perhaps they understand the economy better than you think and realize it makes absolutely no sense to spend 50 dollars on a game with a credit card, play it once/twice/often, sell it to game stop for 10% of it’s value and call it a day. you may counter with a solution of: just don’t buy the game if you can’t afford it. well, that would hurt the gaming industry also – the product needs to get out and word of mouth needs to entice the willing and able to buy the game. i think a realistic solution to all of this is to find alternate revenue streams to lower the selling price to a more attractive number…advertisements and product placements come to mind to do this. use a cell phone in GTA? sidekick could pay thousands of dollars for that to be one of their models and they’ve now gotten that image in front of thousands of gamers faces as advertisement. in sum: you’re close-minded to think you have all the answers; you can’t break this down to a small list of theoretical explanations for piracy. i would love to have a reasonable discussion with you and your friend about this whole situation if for nothing else than to show you that rational-minded people can actually offer legitimate reasons for pirating games (which is not to be confused with *support* for pirating games – i note this as a preemptive response to any “oh you must be a software pirate yourself to sympathize” rebuttal). i’ll close this with one final point: their = possessive and you used it incorrectly earlier. i find it hard to take what you say with anything but a grain of salt since you’ve clearly demonstrated a fundamental grammatical error while insinuating that you stand above these lowly pirate/terrorists with some grand sense of morality or greater understanding of a complex issue.
Haha piratekiller you should really shut up
Why the fuck would you pay so much money…when you can really take it from the net….by the way Long Live the Piratery!
anyone have the link to download it for mac?
“1. It’s an American made Game so its ok to steal from them.”
Actually, I go out of my way to purchase American made items. Lord knows we don’t need wally world type companies taking over now do we?
“2. If I like the game I steal I will go out and buy it. (though 99 percent of the games I steal I say I hate them just so I can justify myself.)”
Yep, I do download things, and if I enjoy them I buy them. Your 99% guess though is incorrect. I don’t go out and download everything willy nilly because I can. I download things I question on whether or not I will enjoy it. I don’t enjoy it, I delete it. Simply put. A good portion of the times though, in addition to purchasing the game, I will also donate money to the company.
“3.I wasn’t going to buy it anyway (the very meaning of stealing)”
If you aren’t planning on buying it, then why download it? That’s just a waste of space you could be using to put your purchased games on that you enjoy.
“4. They don’t lose money cause they did lose a physical sale of the game! (aka I steal anything that isn’t nailed to the ground)”
This doesn’t even make any sense. Anyone who would use that argument is an idiot.
“5. I steal an unfinished or flawed version of the game then go on a rant about how the game sucks.”
How is that a justification for stealing? It just seems like you have a problem with people commenting on a bad download. People will rant about how a game sucks irregardless if they downloaded a bad download, or purchased the game. In fact, a majority of the time, people will comment on how the download itself was terrible, and blame the uploader.
“6. I attempt to steal a game but end up getting a virus and blame the game makers instead of my own stupidity.”
Again, how is this a justification of stealing? Your just ranting now. Show me examples of your number 5 and number 6. Because if people are really that stupid, they deserve to not procreate.
“7. I’m a kid/teen who doesn’t understand how the economy works.”
Just because a kid doesn’t understand how the economy works, is not a valid complaint against “justifications for stealing.” Foreigners might not understand how our economy works, does that mean they all pirate everything as well? No. Your just generalizing. Kids/teens have a very egocentric outlook on life. “I want it, and I want it now.” They don’t think to themselves about anything else other that them.
“8. I’m showing it to the man! (Yes your robin hood..)”
Actually this is true, and I support this reason for justification. Let’s take a look at Stardock. A gaming company that was very small, and has become very successful. Why? Because they released an open letter to their fans that openly said “Yeah we know you pirate our games. Just understand it takes us time and money to produce these games. If you enjoy them, please buy. Because if you don’t purchase them, we might not have the funds to produce more games the you would enjoy.” As a result, Sins of a Solar empire has become one of Stardocks/Iron clads best selling games, and is one of the best selling PC/Computer games of all time.
It’s because companies like that understand that they shouldn’t piss off their fan base by introducing invasive DRM software, (which Stardock has openly said, they are totally against.) and making their customer base jump through hoops to be able to play the game. Companies like that, I openly heartily buy their games, even if it’s a game I hate. Because companies like that need the support to show big gaming companies, such as EA, that’s it’s better to work with your customers than against them.
EA doesn’t care about it’s fan base. They care about money. Stardock cares about it’s fanbase. Hence why Stardock’s Sins of a Solar Empire Expansion pack, Entrenchment, was only $10. Their game? $30. Let’s look at EA’s numbers: The game itself is $50. Expansion packs were $50, and stuff packs were $20. There is no way in hell you can’t tell me that they couldn’t include those stuff packs into their expansion packs. And there is no way in hell you can’t tell me they can’t lower the price of their expansion/games. Evidence lies in their new “stuff pack” Mansion and Garden. It added everything to the game that an expansion pack would, and the game even treats M&G as an expansion pack, and it was only $20.
“I would gladly hunt down people like this if EA would hire me to do so…”
EA wouldn’t hire you to do so because you can’t even make a competent list on why people justify pirating games. To work at EA you need to have an IQ of at least 5, and you sir, do not qualify.
Now to point out, your list is very “generalized.” Problem with that is that every person is different and you can’t lump them together. I purchase games I download if I enjoy them, whereas the above commenter Eli might not. I can understand why companies would want to stop people such as Eli. Eli makes companies lose tons of money and doesn’t give a flying crap about it. People such as myself, are free advertisement, and still put money in their pocket “if it’s a good game.” If I enjoy the game I will tell everyone I know to go out and purchase this game. Even at my work place I will tell people to go out and purchase this game.
You sir, just want to paint everything black and white and fail to see the shades of gray.
“Tracking you IP right now. Oh and your no better then a Terrorist.”
I am very intrigued an why your say Terrorist are the equivalent of Pirates. How many people die every time a video is pirated?
“Funny how I’m not the one stealing and yet I am told that I need to grow up..
“U gay, ppl pirate!” My god…”
You pointed out reasons that you believe why people pirate. Two of them weren’t even “justifications of stealing.” Just you were moaning about the stupidity levels the human race has reached.
And I am rather curious about you not wanting to argue with people because of “homophobic garbage” yet your calling people terrorists? Pot calling the kettle black much?
Let me ask you something, who is DRM really stopping? Pirates, or honest customers? How many people don’t go out and purchase games because of DRM software? If DRM was so amazing we wouldn’t have video games getting cracked weeks before release. This should be red flags to the companies that their software isn’t working, and they need to just ditch DRM altogether. DRM is the reason Amazon had issues with Spore, why their is a forum called Reclaim your Game dedicated to publicly posting games to avoid that have DRM, it is the reason EA has been in a lawsuit practically 5 times, and it’s the reason many people will go out and download the sims 3.
“And don’t forget the Collector’s Edition, which offers a lot of stuff that may not be in the torrent download. Not only that, there are a lot of truly loyal Sims fans who are still buying the game even though it’s up for download. I myself am downloading the game right now, but I’m still going to buy the Collector’s Edition when it comes out.”
The only stuff that is making we want to purchase the preorder for the collector’s addition, is the plumbob flash drive. The digital downloads will be available somewhere, because all of the special Sims 2 preorder gifts are widely available.
“‘Personally I think EA asked for this by stiffing the fans when they put back the release date just to screw more profit out of them.’
Ok, you’ll have to explain that. How does /delaying/ putting out a game increase profits. You’re really reaching. Putting out a game /sooner/ would increase profits. Sounds like you’re doing everything you can to rationalize stealing.”
I don’t think they pushed back the release date to screw more profits out of their customer base. I do see how it could be done though. EA has contacted some of the more popular Livejournal sim communities, and offered them a deal that if they basically had done all sorts of advertising techniques, they would receive two copies of The Sims 3. One to keep, and one to give away to someone in their community. To me that is how they are trying to get more money. I don’t think they delayed Sims 3 for this reason, but if they had released the game in February, they wouldn’t be able to offer those Livejournal communities their deals.
Putting out the game sooner might not have increased profits. If you read any of the Sims websites in the communities, a lot of people are upset with EA and how they handle their game. EA has been notorious for releasing games to early, and thus being ridden with bugs. EA has a terrible habit to rely on people within the Sims communities to fix their bugs. Yes EA releases patches, but none of them fix problems that ridden their games that infects every customer, rather than just those unlikely hundred who happen to find a very rare game bug. The game released in February would have lessen the tension they are receiving for delaying the game, but would not have increased profits.
“i think a realistic solution to all of this is to find alternate revenue streams to lower the selling price to a more attractive number…advertisements and product placements come to mind to do this. use a cell phone in GTA? sidekick could pay thousands of dollars for that to be one of their models and they’ve now gotten that image in front of thousands of gamers faces as advertisement.”
Sims 3 was actually going to do this, or so I read. It was rumored that everyday Sims 3 was going to implecate a new daily advertisement into the game. It might have helped reduce costs of the game, but it upset a lot of their fan base. Who wants to play a game with a McDonalds logo in your face everyday 10 minutes?
A more realistic solution would be to increase excellence in gaming. If you have been gaming for as long as I have, you would know that games are no longer about having fun. They are about who can make the prettiest game. Who cares if it’s 5 hours long? Gaming companies need to realize that if they just ditched the DRM and increased performance/playability/enjoyability of their games there would be less pirating.
Yeah, is there a good link for Macs? I need it so bad!
I agree with missbonbon but am pissed off at EA anyway and will download this, but IF this IS good I may get a legit copy.
PS: Bloody time u shut the fuck up Piratekiller
thank you
where do i find pretty pretty please
I don’t think EA are going to do anything about it. Like they did with donation sites for the sims 2.
Hehe… Piratekiller, its easy for u to say “dont pirate” when your dad pays for all your stuff.. Lil’ boys like you should just shutup.. Yes, i would gladly buy all my games if i had the money.. I hardly have money for food(so nice being a student
), then you say i should just die for boredom becus i aint got golden card like you..
Too bad there is not pirate food other than what you can find from the trash, IF u can. Then i would spend my money for games and leech my food, would ya then be happy? Hehe actually i only play Cs:s(i have paid for it btw) then i have leeched some games and played them maybe a day. Now i leeched Sims3 i think this would be rly good, worth for more than a day.
