I am very intrigued an why your say Terrorist are the equivalent of Pirates. How many people die every time a video is pirated?

You pointed out reasons that you believe why people pirate. Two of them weren’t even “justifications of stealing.” Just you were moaning about the stupidity levels the human race has reached.

Let me ask you something, who is DRM really stopping? Pirates, or honest customers? How many people don’t go out and purchase games because of DRM software? If DRM was so amazing we wouldn’t have video games getting cracked weeks before release. This should be red flags to the companies that their software isn’t working, and they need to just ditch DRM altogether. DRM is the reason Amazon had issues with Spore, why their is a forum called Reclaim your Game dedicated to publicly posting games to avoid that have DRM, it is the reason EA has been in a lawsuit practically 5 times, and it’s the reason many people will go out and download the sims 3.

The only stuff that is making we want to purchase the preorder for the collector’s addition, is the plumbob flash drive. The digital downloads will be available somewhere, because all of the special Sims 2 preorder gifts are widely available.

I don’t think they pushed back the release date to screw more profits out of their customer base. I do see how it could be done though. EA has contacted some of the more popular Livejournal sim communities, and offered them a deal that if they basically had done all sorts of advertising techniques, they would receive two copies of The Sims 3. One to keep, and one to give away to someone in their community. To me that is how they are trying to get more money. I don’t think they delayed Sims 3 for this reason, but if they had released the game in February, they wouldn’t be able to offer those Livejournal communities their deals.

Putting out the game sooner might not have increased profits. If you read any of the Sims websites in the communities, a lot of people are upset with EA and how they handle their game. EA has been notorious for releasing games to early, and thus being ridden with bugs. EA has a terrible habit to rely on people within the Sims communities to fix their bugs. Yes EA releases patches, but none of them fix problems that ridden their games that infects every customer, rather than just those unlikely hundred who happen to find a very rare game bug. The game released in February would have lessen the tension they are receiving for delaying the game, but would not have increased profits.

Sims 3 was actually going to do this, or so I read. It was rumored that everyday Sims 3 was going to implecate a new daily advertisement into the game. It might have helped reduce costs of the game, but it upset a lot of their fan base. Who wants to play a game with a McDonalds logo in your face everyday 10 minutes?

A more realistic solution would be to increase excellence in gaming. If you have been gaming for as long as I have, you would know that games are no longer about having fun. They are about who can make the prettiest game. Who cares if it’s 5 hours long? Gaming companies need to realize that if they just ditched the DRM and increased performance/playability/enjoyability of their games there would be less pirating.

Actually, I go out of my way to purchase American made items. Lord knows we don’t need wally world type companies taking over now do we?

Yep, I do download things, and if I enjoy them I buy them. Your 99% guess though is incorrect. I don’t go out and download everything willy nilly because I can. I download things I question on whether or not I will enjoy it. I don’t enjoy it, I delete it. Simply put. A good portion of the times though, in addition to purchasing the game, I will also donate money to the company.

If you aren’t planning on buying it, then why download it? That’s just a waste of space you could be using to put your purchased games on that you enjoy.

How is that a justification for stealing? It just seems like you have a problem with people commenting on a bad download. People will rant about how a game sucks irregardless if they downloaded a bad download, or purchased the game. In fact, a majority of the time, people will comment on how the download itself was terrible, and blame the uploader.

Again, how is this a justification of stealing? Your just ranting now. Show me examples of your number 5 and number 6. Because if people are really that stupid, they deserve to not procreate.

Just because a kid doesn’t understand how the economy works, is not a valid complaint against “justifications for stealing.” Foreigners might not understand how our economy works, does that mean they all pirate everything as well? No. Your just generalizing. Kids/teens have a very egocentric outlook on life. “I want it, and I want it now.” They don’t think to themselves about anything else other that them.

Actually this is true, and I support this reason for justification. Let’s take a look at Stardock. A gaming company that was very small, and has become very successful. Why? Because they released an open letter to their fans that openly said “Yeah we know you pirate our games. Just understand it takes us time and money to produce these games. If you enjoy them, please buy. Because if you don’t purchase them, we might not have the funds to produce more games the you would enjoy.” As a result, Sins of a Solar empire has become one of Stardocks/Iron clads best selling games, and is one of the best selling PC/Computer games of all time.

It’s because companies like that understand that they shouldn’t piss off their fan base by introducing invasive DRM software, (which Stardock has openly said, they are totally against.) and making their customer base jump through hoops to be able to play the game. Companies like that, I openly heartily buy their games, even if it’s a game I hate. Because companies like that need the support to show big gaming companies, such as EA, that’s it’s better to work with your customers than against them.

EA doesn’t care about it’s fan base. They care about money. Stardock cares about it’s fanbase. Hence why Stardock’s Sins of a Solar Empire Expansion pack, Entrenchment, was only $10. Their game? $30. Let’s look at EA’s numbers: The game itself is $50. Expansion packs were $50, and stuff packs were $20. There is no way in hell you can’t tell me that they couldn’t include those stuff packs into their expansion packs. And there is no way in hell you can’t tell me they can’t lower the price of their expansion/games. Evidence lies in their new “stuff pack” Mansion and Garden. It added everything to the game that an expansion pack would, and the game even treats M&G as an expansion pack, and it was only $20.

EA wouldn’t hire you to do so because you can’t even make a competent list on why people justify pirating games. To work at EA you need to have an IQ of at least 5, and you sir, do not qualify.

Now to point out, your list is very “generalized.” Problem with that is that every person is different and you can’t lump them together. I purchase games I download if I enjoy them, whereas the above commenter Eli might not. I can understand why companies would want to stop people such as Eli. Eli makes companies lose tons of money and doesn’t give a flying crap about it. People such as myself, are free advertisement, and still put money in their pocket “if it’s a good game.” If I enjoy the game I will tell everyone I know to go out and purchase this game. Even at my work place I will tell people to go out and purchase this game.
