The Google I/O 2009 conference this year was probably one of the greatest ever with free smartphones for developers, new features, new OS, Android 2.0 Donut, HTML 5, and Chrome. Many, many things, and we wished that we were there too. Well, the latest thing that Google demonstrated is called Wave and it’s one of the most promising social networking tools of today. The Google Wave is a combination of instant messaging, e-mail, and social media, where users will be given the possibility to share photos and videos only to a selected amount of friends.

It’s very easy to understand the concept that Google Wave proposes – in a social networking tool you have a list of friends. Your “friends list” consists of close friends, friends, buddies, parents, brothers, sisters, your kids, your wife/husband, boss, colleagues, or teachers. Well, when you share content, you share it to the whole list and there is a big chance that you don’t want someone to see it. Maybe you will share pictures and videos from a wild party, and you wouldn’t want your teachers or boss to see it therefore you will want the content to be seen only by your closest friends.

The Google Wave social networking tool will allow you to share stuff with only targeted people from your list, and then they will comment on it. The comments will be seen only by your friends whom you had shared the content.
There is much more than this about the Google Wave who is based on the HTML 5 that Google highly promotes and which should improve the life of a developer. What more could you ask? The Wave is a tool which allows you to share content with only a few people that you choose – if you share content from your work, then you share it with your boss and with your coworkers, not your friends who would like to see naked women. If you share naked pictures, then you will want them to be seen only by your friends, not by your mom and dad.

This is why this service is called the Wave. The Wave represents a message, an image, a video, or anything else. You just wave it to whoever you want to, not to everybody. The later comments will be updated in real time, but if you have to leave in a hurry then you can “rewind” everything and see all the comments.

Will the Google Wave be the FaceBook killer? I don’t know that. It’s very unlikely, but I do know that many people will love it. I can hardly wait for the Google Wave to be available for us. Really. It’s cool, very cool. It’s like a combination between FaceBook, Twitter, and Digg. It’s perfect! Check out the screenshots, and stick with us as we will give you more information about the Google Wave as soon as we explore more of its features.
