Acer has unveiled a few netbooks recently. This nothing unusual, but the company announced Android-based netbooks and this is what makes it more interesting. However, just when we were thinking that everything will be cooler and cheaper, Acer’s chairman also announced that the Android-powered netbooks will also come pre-installed with Windows XP.

JT Wang said that Acer netbooks will come as dual-boot systems with Android and Windows because the company wants “to be sure.” Wang said that the public is uncertain of Android as there are not so many netbooks and other devices powered by Google’s OS therefore consumers might not accept the platform.
I’m not sure about that as Android OS was welcomed by everyone although it find itself in early development it has shown reliability. Also, the Android can be updated and Google provides updates which will definitely make the OS better, unlike XP or Vista which cost money and they will be as buggy as before updates.
The good thing is that Acer’s chairman admitted that the company will release Android-only netbooks is telecom providers will ask for them, but until then consumers will also have to pay for the so-called “Windows tax.”
Mr. Wang also mentioned that Acer’s sales will increase by 30% to 40% in H2 of 2009.
