Palm Pre Exclusivity Deal Is Not 6 Months, Says Sprint CEO

I haven’t seen someone as desperate as Sprint in a long time. Let me explain it better to you: everybody knows that the Palm Pre is sold exclusive through Sprint in 2009. There is no possibility to make this period shorter. Verizon announced that both Palm Pre and BlackBerry Storm 2 are coming to the carrier in six months which means that the former will be available sometime before Christmas or in early months of 2010.

Sprint Palm Pre

Dan Hesse, Sprint’s CEO, reacted angrily to Verizon’s statements and said that the exclusivity deal over Pre is not six months, it’s longer. He also said that Sprint and Palm have signed an agreement which says that both parties shouldn’t reveal the length of the exclusivity deal, and that Verizon “needs to check their facts.”

If it were to trust Verizon, then its subscribers should wait for a few months and they shouldn’t switch carriers as the Palm Pre is coming in six months. If it were to believe Sprint’s CEO who is desperate to attract more clients then you should switch carriers as the Pre is not coming to Verizon too soon. Also Sprint doesn’t have enough Pre units which makes us think that Palm is keeping them for someone else.

OK, I think both Sprint and Verizon are right. Sprint’s Palm Pre exclusivity deal is not for 6 months, it’s for 7. Also, who would expect Sprint’s CEO to say “Hey, the period is only 6-7 months, wait for it to come to Verizon. Why would you switch to Sprint?” Dan Hesse is an intelligent person, and he wouldn’t make such mistakes as he wants the best for the company he runs.

Switch to Sprint or wait for the Palm Pre on Verizon? It’s your call.
