TomTom and ZipCar For iPhone Coming Soon To The App Store
The TomTom application for iPhone was unveiled back in January and the developers told users that it will take a while before the app is completed in order to deliver full GPS experience. At the Apple WWDC 2009 we’ve seen the iPhone OS 3.0 and apps for it, and one of the most interesting was TomTom app which turns the iPhone into a TomTom GPS. The TomTom for iPhone app provides GPS favorite locations, advanced planning, POIs searching, turn-by-turn directions, and voice control.

When an iPhone user will buy the TomTom app, he will receive the TomTom Car Kit which allows users to dock the iPhone in the car in landscape or portrait mode. Well, this means that you will not need a GPS device anymore as you have the iPhone, however, we’re not sure what happens if someone calls you when you’re in the middle of an intersection with no idea where to go. Pricing remains a secret for now. Update: TomTom for iPhone apps can respond to calls, but probably only if you want to. More details soon after the app goes live to the App Store.
The other car-related iPhone app is called ZipCar which provides a sharing cars service so that you can find a “rent a car” store, reserve a car, unlock the car using your iPhone, and if you want press the horn to scare people away from the car. ZipCar will probably gain a lot of popularity thanks to the iPhone as you can make a reservation only through the web so this app will be welcomed. Pricing remains unknown, however, it should soon be available at the App Store.
