There is no secret that the Sims 3 video game was leaked on torrents two weeks before its official launch. Everybody was thinking “what a disaster for EA!” as the game was downloaded more than 200,000 times before the release. Well, you don’t have to pity EA as they kinda fooled you as the leaked Sims 3 was only a demo program for Poland and China. According to John Riccitiello, the torrent-leaked Sims 3 was nothing more than a demo program for Poland and China.

The EA CEO says that in the pirated copies there only one Sim city out of two in the original one. Also the leaked Sims 3 lacks content which can be downloaded from EA after you register your copy at EA. In order to have the full Sims 3, users have to join the online community after they register their copy to EA. Riccitiello admits that the leaked Sims 3 was an accident, and they are investigating, but EA seems happy with the big number of downloads.

John Riccitiello believes that EA is selling services, not packaged good because this is the best way to fight against piracy and pirates. If you are selling a disk package then pirates will probably hack it, however, you can’t hack a service although the EA CEO admits that servers were pirated before.

Ultimately John Riccitiello is encouraging pirates to pirate their online games like Fifa Online, NBA Street Online, and Battleforge because they would do EA a favor.

“Do you think Blizzard gets upset when someone pirates a disk of one of their online games?” said Riccitiello.

I’m not a fan of EA. I’m not a fan of piracy. However, I admire EA for their campaign as it’s a good strategy to fight against piracy. At the time being piracy is illegal therefore it has to be stopped.
