Microsoft Reveals Windows 7 Upgrade and Full Prices
Earlier today we have revealed the Windows 7 packaging and we were pleased with what we’ve seen. Hours later Microsoft decided to reveal the prices of the Windows 7 editions. I’m not sure if you are going to be pleased with what you will get, but here is the deal:
- Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade from Vista Home Premium will cost you $120.
- Windows 7 Professional upgrade from Vista Business will cost you $200.
- Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade from Vista Ultimate will cost you $220.
If you are not looking for an upgrade and you will buy a full disc, here is the deal:
- Windows 7 Home Premium will cost you $200.
- Windows 7 Professional will cost you $300.
- Windows 7 Ultimate will cost you $320.
Windows 7 will be available as of October 22. The great thing is that you can pre-order Windows 7 as of June 26 (tomorrow) for $50 for Home Premium, and $100 for Professional, while for Ultimate there is no deal. Also the pre-order units are limited and for a limited amount of time!
Please note that if you are going to buy a PC with Vista pre-installed, you will receive a free upgrade to Windows 7, but manufacturer may choose to come up with a fee for the upgrade so choose CAREFULLY your retailer.
If you are from Europe then the situation is difference and you will have the feeling that Microsoft is mocking you. Windows 7 Home Premium and Professional will be available for pre-order as of July 15, but Microsoft will only sell full discs which means that you can’t upgrade directly from Vista. You will have to perform a clean install which means that you will have to backup your files however you can.
This happened because Microsoft will not ship Windows 7 with Internet Explorer 8 therefore they don’t want things to get ugly and break your and their software. The good thing is that if you buy Vista prior to the Windows 7 launch, then the new OS will be available at the discounted prices.
