If you are from North America then communication will become more reliable from now on as TerreStar-1 has been launched on Earth’s orbit yesterday. TerreStar-1 is the biggest commercial satellite from space, and it was designed to faster Internet, and wireless voice services. The satellite will provide Internet and voice communications for the people in North America that own a smartphone-sized device.
TerreStar-1 was designed by Space System/Loral from California, and it took off from the Guiana Space Center located in the French Guiana. Now that world’s largest satellite was put into the orbit from South America, every military personnel, emergency staff, and rural inhabitants will remain in contact.
TerreStar 1 features a 60-foot S-band antenna, while TerreStar Networks has manufactured a smartphone which works on both satellite and conventional cellular networks. TerreStar Networks has signed a partnership with AT&T for roaming purposes, and now the company is looking to reach an agreement with other carriers.
SkyTerra Communications is another company which is looking to offer Internet and voice services through next-gen satellites. TerreStar’s rival will launch its first satellite sometime in early 2010.
