A couple of days ago we reported that GeoHot got tired to wait for the iPhone 3GS jailbreak getting released by the iPhone Dev team and he decided to release his own iPhone 3GS jailbreak. Well, he did. And it worked perfectly for many users, however, there were a lot of bugs and the release didn’t work with Windows 7, or other 64-bit OS. Now, George Hotz released an update to his purplera1n, which performs better than the previous release and it works with all Windows.

Many iPhone 3GS users were reporting that they cannot use purplera1n with Windows Vista and Ultrasn0w, however, GeoHot released purplera1n RC2 and everything seems better now. According to GeoHot, purplera1n RC2 supports all Windows Vista, Windows 7, International, and 64-bit versions, while the Mac OS X version is coming very soon. Please note that this is still a “beta software” therefore it might not work and you should read the instructions and the experience of other users.

Normally this process should unlock and jailbreak your iPhone 3GS and should work well after you install Ultrasn0w. Purplera1n RC2 comes with many bug fixes including less flakiness in the payload, improved logging with “slightly” more useful errors, new kernel patches, codesign errors fixed, Cydia’s tar cleaned-up, vm_map +x added, and vm_check passed.
