First Google Chrome OS Leaked Screenshots – Real or Fake?

Only yesterday Google announced the development of the Chrome OS, and now we have the first screenshots of Google’s new operating system. Please note that we don’t know if these shots are fake, but they certainly look real. The shots were taken at an alleged Acer event in Taiwan where the Google Chrome OS Private Developer Beta was demonstrated. The Google Chrome OS was installed on an Acer Extensa 4620Z laptop in only 10 minutes.

This already is weird as Google said that the Chrome OS will first come to netbooks, and if you look closely at the screen then you will notice that it doesn’t look like an event or conference. Like said the installation from Windows Vista took only 10 minutes, and the desktop-to-desktop reboot took only 25 seconds.

According to the person who leaked the photos, the Chrome OS will feature a Chrome bar with a shining blue icon with the Chrome logo in the middle which will act like the Windows key acts on a Windows computer. The key will probably be called Chrome key and it will open the main menu. If I really have to say this: the Chrome key will replace the Windows key on a netbook powered by the Google Chrome OS.

Navigation in the file system will be done in two ways: exploration, similar to Windows Explorer, and browser, a search-based mode. The aforementioned Chrome bar will have the possibility to feature a search box if a user will want that. Well, we don’t know if the screenshots are real. Maybe the guy who leaked them is laughing at us right now. Google announced yesterday that the Chrome OS will be based on a Linux kernel therefore it wouldn’t be too hard to modify a Linux desktop environment. Like said that doesn’t look like an Acer party to me, but maybe they don’t party like we do. Check out the shots below and let us know what do you think? Real or fake?

fake…. the highlight on the talk icon is identical to vista and 7

I have to say it looks like Linux. In retrospec though, I beleve Chrome OS will be a glorified distribution of Linux/Unix like Apple’s OS. That screen shot reminds me of the KDE Desktop enviroment where they shortened the bar where it does not extend to either side. As for the button, just another theme right? I hear it’s browser based which basically means it will take a few years to really catch on. Truly genius idea though since Gg already owns the internet, it’s like stealing not only microsoft’s marketshare but the market also.
