After Google announced the development of another operating system, Microsoft decided to improve its current services with the release of the Silverlight 3. Although it was expected to be released at a later time, Silverlight 3 has come out of beta, and it’s now available for download at Microsoft’s website. Microsoft Silverlight 3 supports Internet Explorer 6, IE7, IE8, Firefox 2, FF3, Safari 3 and 4.
Silverlight RTW built 3.0.40624.0 is compatible with Windows x86 and x64, 500MHz or more processor, 128MB or more RAM, Mac OS X 10.4.8 or higher powered by Intel Core Duo at 1.83GHz or higher, and 128MB of more RAM. Silverlight 3 is sized at 4.69MB and it can be downloaded right away along with the Sivlerlight 3 SDK sized at 9.5MB, and the Silverlight 3 Tools sized at 32.2MB.
Silverlight 3 comes packed with tons of new features and APIs including GPU hardware acceleration, new codec support for H.264, AAC, MPEG-4, GPU acceleration and hardware compositing, perspective 3D, pixel shader effects, deep linking, improved text quality, multitouch support, server data push improvements, and binary XML networking support among others. Another great thing about Silverlight 3 is that it provides streaming in HD in fullscreen mode.
