The iPhone Dev team released today Ultrasn0w 0.9 for the masses. Although it seems like there is a war between George Hotz and the iPhone Devs, this is not entirely true as GeoHot helped the developers at the latest version of Ultrasn0w. On the iPhone Dev blog you can see how the developers “blame” GeoHot for showing off with his iPhone unlock tool, Purplesn0w. Allegedly GeoHot said that Purplesn0w is better than Ultrasn0w and Yellowsn0w, and the iPhone Dev team decided to look deep into the heart of it, and they found something very interesting there.
GeoHot’s idea to “patch CommCenter rather than use a daemon” wasn’t taken too serious by the iPhone devs, but after a closer look the developers noticed how important this was. GeoHot’s idea was welcomed by the iPhone Dev team because both Ultrasn0w 0.6 and 0.8 had problems where “STK refresh command it used crashed the baseband in [iPhone] 3GS.”
According to the iPhone Dev team, Ultrasn0w 0.9 works with iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, with hacktivated devices, it’s compatible with Redsn0w or Purplera1n (or however you jailbroken your device), doesn’t require daemon, can be downloaded via Cydia at http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com, and “is almost 7000 times smaller than its nearest competition.”
