Mozilla Unveils Firefox 4.0 Screenshots, and Chrome-like Design
I’ve never seen someone growing up as fast as Mozilla Firefox. It seems like only last year I was using Firefox 2.0, and now I’m about to get my hands on Firefox 4.0. You might be wondering what I’m talking about: well, you heard me right, Mozilla Firefox 4.0 early screenshots were released. Just one week after the Mozilla Foundation released some teaser shots of the Firefox 3.7, another set of pictures were made available and they’re showcasing Firefox 4.0.
From the pictures you can tell that Firefox 3.7 looks a lot like Google Chrome thanks to the glass design. Firefox 3.7 also comes with a new Tools bar, and other design changes, but Mozilla Firefox 4.0 is looking a lot like Chrome. The Mozilla Foundation said that these screenshots are just mock-ups which means that Firefox 4.0 might not look like this. However, Firefox 4.0 and its glass-Chrome-like design are just great.
Probably the best part about Firefox 4.0 is that you can choose between two designs: tabs-on-bottom or tabs-on-top. If you look closely then you will notice that the tabs-on-top version looks exactly like the Google Chrome. Another addition to the Firefox 4.0 browser is a combo button which consists of Stop, Refresh, and Go located next to the address bar and which changes its color depending on what you can do.
The Mozilla Foundation also compiled an early review of the browser and Firefox 4.0 comes with shorter mouse distance to the page controls, efficiency / remove visual complexity, and it saves vertical space. These are the pros, and here are the cons: Firefox 4.0 breaks familiarity (current users are used with how the things are arranged now therefore they will be confused with new changes), comes with longer mouse distance to tabs, lost space between the app icon and the window widgets, and if you are going to use the tabs-on-top then the title will be truncated and you will only see a few words that fir in the tab.

The second screen shot is Chrome like with the tabs in the window bar.
Most of the screen shots show a layout very much like the existing Firefox with the tabs below the awesome bar.
I like it that they have removed the need for a search field by making searches accessible directly from the address bar (same as Chrome).
Well, its looking good so far. Well done Mozilla!
