In a very brief press release Apple has announced that Eric Schimdt has resigned from the Apple Board of Directors today after he was in this position for about 3 years. Google CEO Eric Schimdt contributed very much to Apple, and now that he’s no longer part of Apple’s Board of the Directors, the Cupertino-based company has lost an important man. The reason why Eric Schmidt left Apple’s Board of Directors is Android OS as Eric’s contribution to Apple decreased in the past few months.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt is now concentrating on the Android OS, and the recently-announced Chrome OS. If Schmidt were to remain at Apple then a conflict of interest would have been generated, probably because he couldn’t participate to large parts of Apple meetings in order not to steal information about the Mac OS X and iPhone OS.

I know what Eric Schmidt is a very professional man, but I think it’s best for him and Apple to part ways sooner rather than later. The Android OS is increasing in popularity, and the Google CEO had to resign from Apple’s Board of Directors. Steve Jobs had taken time to praise Schmidt saying that he “has been an excellent Board member for Apple” thanks to its “talent, passion, and wisdom.” Apple CEO said that Eric helped Apple to be successful, and he thanks him for his contribution.

Currently we’re waiting to hear an official statement from Google CEO Eric Schmidt, and his resignation from Apple’s Board of Directors. Stay tuned, we will post more details as soon as it surfaces.
