iPhone OS 3.0.1: Ultrasn0w and Redsn0w Can Still Unlock and Jailbreak Your iPhone

A few days ago Apple released iPhone OS 3.0.1, an update which is intended to fix the iPhone SMS vulnerability bug. The software update that Apple pushed to iPhone owners fixed the iPhone SMS hack, but in the same time it made Redsn0w and Ultrasn0w unusable; until you install them once again.

The iPhone Dev team investigated the update, and it seems like Apple didn’t change too much meaning that the code is the same, while the baseband hasn’t been modified. Actually, the devs said that Apple addressed only the SMS vulnerability via the iPhone OS 3.0.1 therefore if you want to unlock and jailbreak your iPhone then you will have to install Redsn0w and Ultrasn0w one more time.

Like usual, Redsn0w 0.8 is available for download just like Ultrasn0w 0.9 for jailbreak and unlock. The iPhone Dev team says that you should update to iPhone OS 3.0.1 via iTunes, then run Redsn0w. After that you will be asked to identify the IPSW that you used and you will have to choose the 3.0 IPSW, not the 3.0.1 IPSW.

At the moment Redsn0w 0.8 doesn’t recognize the 3.0.1 IPSW, but the devs should release an update to fix it. Don’t start asking stupid questions, as they’re the same. It’s just a name change, and the major changes will occur when Apple releases iPhone OS 3.1. Until then jailbreak and unlock your iPhone like usual.
