A couple of days ago we got our hands on a set of pictures showcasing an Android tablet or MID. We don’t know if the pics were real or photoshopped, or if that’s a real device. All that we know is that Archos will unveil an Android tablet on September 15 at an event in Paris. Although we somewhat knew this for quite a while, now we know for sure that the Archos 5 tablet is coming and we might have taken a look at it.

In addition to the Archos 5 tablet, Archos has launched AppsLib: an app store version for all high-end Android-powered devices like smartphones, PNDs, PDAs, tablets, MIDs, but also picture frames. The new Archos tablet will come packed with a 5″ WVGA 800 x 480 touchscreen, 720p video support, HDMI output, OpenGL accelerator, and other unconfirmed specs like 500GB SATA HDD, 3.5G, and a Cortex CPU among others.

If that was the Android-based Archos tablet then we like it, and we think that it can compete against an Apple tablet if ever released. At the moment we’ll have to wait for the full specs of the Archos 5 and to see if Apple really unveils a new device at the iPod Event on September 9.
