One of the most searched terms on Google today is “White people stole my car” and that is because of a mistake. When you google for the term “White people stole my car”, Google suggests you to search “Black people stole my car”, which is both funny and racist.
Unfortunately, scammers make profit of those kind of terms and a lot of the results for this term are full of viruses so you should take care and have an up-to-date browser along with a good antivirus.
Google has done those kind of mistakes before and this is normal, considering the suggestions are automated and based on what people search the most.

Did anyone scroll down to “Blacknprouds” comment from earlier that I noticed on the bottom of this page? Is that a racist statement by a black man or what? Watch the movie “American History X” and that will explain the MANY problems in American society today. Yes, our president is black…but what is ignorant, is why the majority of blacks voted for him (because he is black only), and why did whites vote for him (ignorant to thinking the president can make the change himself and listening to the liberal media). After his short term in office and listening to false pretenses, I guess the states who voted Republican can say..I told you so!!! I agree with Jay there is nothing racist about Google suggesting black people instead of white people. It is done like everything else on Google…by a majority. It isn’t Google’s fault that throughout the web that black people stealing cars is more common. I don’t see how anyone could declare racism against simple statistics…a computer generated search is not racist and to suggest that it is means you are referring to a computer as being racist. Seriously people? I am not racist but I take statistics into my life to aid me. For example … yes I definitely lock my car and set the alarm in a black neighborhood but I don’t always do that in a white neighborhood. It is cause of simple statistics…I didn’t go out a make most stolen cars stolen by black people instead of white…it also applies to sex too for example men are more likely to steal a car than women. I am not saying white people don’t steal or that women don’t steal I am simply stating a given fact which is the majority of people that steal cars are black males. Would people be offended if i rattled of more statistics that varied with sex and or skin color…probably. For example I took a suicide class and guess what…white people are more suicidal than black people also women are more likely to attempt it but men are more likely to complete it. Black people tend to be more homicidal instead of suicidal. If you are offended by the car stealing statistic then you should be equally offended by that statistic then right? Only would make sense

Aggressive persons are probably more likely to get offended, so they are the ones actively “debating” the issue. There are others who stay out of the argument, maybe because they think the whole thing is just silly, or they have better things to do than be mad at everyone for being the way they are.

Google is a software “machine” and statistic is a mathematical interpretation of data. On the other hand, racism is an emotional response wrought from one’s own sense of superiority or resentment for the perceived supremacist beliefs of others (example, the statement “I hate those recast (input color) pigs” would be an example of racism regardless of the ethnicity of the speaker)
While the most ignorant and/or arrogant our species will disregard this fact, those of us who desire a clue will consider our own emotions against the reality and adjust accordingly.

I then googled “black men are racist” and only got 23.
Should I be mad at google for claiming that I’m a racist now? No. I’d be pretty stupid to get offended by a statistic based on what a non-organized mass of independent writers has produced.
The truth may be that white people are most often claimed to be racist. Similarly, black people often get the blame for having stolen a car. This does not necessarily mean they did it.
Blacks shouldn’t be mad at google for documenting that they often get the blame. Blame is not facts. They should be thankful that google provides an insight; they tell us that based on a large number of reports, there is a majority in people claiming that their car was stolen by someone who was black.
There may be a very basic reason to this; white people in general have more money, they tend to use English more and they have the opportunity to use the Internet. They also tend to have more cars to get stolen. Also, if somebody who is white stole the car, it’s more likely that one would say “somebody stole my car” than to mention that the person who stole it was white.
Remember, there are reasons for everything, and it’s not always the worst imaginable.

Reallly?? Feel sorry for them? Almost every single person of African descent in this country is here because someone from which they descended was taken from Africa as a slave and worked to death. Until about 60 some years ago, almost any white in a Black man’s skin was there because his mother or grandmother or great-grandmother was raped by a white man. In the 60’s there was the rallying cry among Blacks in ghettos of “Take Ten,” because the white population outnumbered the Black population 10 to 1, and conditions were so bad for them that they thought their only future was extinction or white blood shed, and they would have to take down ten whites for every Black that died. The Black man or woman doesn’t want white pity. They want, at the very least, to be treated equally, and thats generous of them considering what they’ve been through.
Crime is based on poverty, for the most part. Remmi, white college funds? You ever been to the suburbs of any big city? Predominantly white population. You ever been to a ghetto? Black and Hispanic population. Blacks in the fields of education or science or art are outnumbered by whites by huge amounts, because they don’t have the same opportunities that whites do, so they get bullshit-paying jobs and stay in the ghettos in poverty. White college funds, shit, alot of white people I know (not all, by any means, but more comparatively) had a college fund since they were born. Even if they didn’t, education has been targeted at a white population in this country since it was founded, and there have been massive steps, but the socio-economic conditions that white men created prevent things from being equal.
Black men and women were refused education, refused opportunities to make decent money, forced into ghettos and projects, all by the white population. And then they are blamed for being there in the first place and for not aspiring to be just like the white man that put them there.

My ancestors came to America just as poor and endentured to wealthy land owners. The difference is that we didn’t wallow in self pity, we worked to improve our situation and insisted that our children continue to improve themselves. In 3 generations time any family, regardless of race can improve their lot in life, if they choose to do so instead of whining about what they did to great-great-great grandpa.

The “intelligence gap” is fictional. The potential for mental capacity is near equal across race and ethnicity. Color, gender, or ancestry is not a determinant for intelligence unless inbreeding, birth defects, or disease is involved. Of course, racism is morally wrong; however, progress in terms of distribution of social benefits measured from generation to generation is advancing at a steady pace. I’m speaking of benefits such as quality education, health care, and housing. Now, racism is often the result of irrational concerns/fears, verbally transmitted familial ideology, or statistical bias in observation or experience. I’m not certain who it was in this thread that said racism will never die but they are correct…for now-pending some unforseeable external threat or event. As I mentioned, generational progress is advancing but the next few generations are likely to be burdened by many forms of discrimination. I doubt comedians 50 years from now will consider the subject taboo. Some sort of discrimination, either intentional or accidental, is likely to prevail in global society for many generations.
One crucial behavoiral modification that may prove effective in hastening the advancement of social equality is to be less reactive and more proactive. What I mean is stop being defensive in certain situations. Conflict of this particular nature requires participation. I’m not saying slighted groups should simply “roll with the punches”; however, blasting some moron for being racist is only going to cement their ill-founded belief structure-especially when you make assumptions about their race. Africans are the ONLY immigrants of USA and other developed countries that were brought there AGAINST their will. They were not looking for a better life, they had a civilization (that would rival any modern day civilization) already in place. They were happy with their life and all that it was! All other immigrants came on their own accord, to find a better life. The poverty they encountered in the USA, by comparison to where they came from was minimal.
Africans were pulled from dynasties and royalty to come here as slaves. They then went through 400 yrs of being denied their own history. Finally! This is a funny thread. The whole thing is fake and is pretty amusing. I don’t understand how anyone (regardless of race) feels like they have a harder lot in life than anyone else? We all have different struggles to go through. We all have opportunities to go to public school and excel if we try. We all have the opportunity to take out student loans and go to a decent college to further our education. What determines where we end up in life is not where we start, but the decisions we make along the way.
I’ve seen just as many rich kids end up failures as I have seen poor kids make it. The bottom line is we determine our futures and our lives. The purpose of being here is to find happiness, not end up with the most money. It is sad that there is so much resentment and focus on past wrongs rather than focused on making life better.
I am a white male that didn’t have money growing up. We struggled at times and we got through it. We lived within our means and made smart financial decisions. I took out loans to go to school and am still paying them back. I am a doctor now, not because I was white, or because it was given to me, but because I worked my butt off to learn and excel in my education. I made smart decisions (I didn’t get anyone pregnant, go to jail, do drugs, or anything else illegal) so that I did not limit myself, and that’s why I am where I am at today.
I thought that the spoof was comical, but should not be offensive. I think we all tease each other about our differences, why does race have to be such a sore subject? I don’t think that the spoof was hateful. Philosophically, if we are offended by something that another does, that reflects on us, not the other person. Maybe we should take more time to figure out why we get offended so easily and less time pointing fingers at others. Your statement is really not accurate. The African-American has adapted to Western culture and you now see significant influence of Western Culture in certain parts of Africa. At this point what is known as African culture is a wide range of traditional African culture to Western Culture. We Browns here in America have no real link to how our culture has changed or what it was prior to slavery. No records, no means to trace our ancestry. So the slave trade did strip our culture. The culture of black people in general is not to hate other people, the culture is to accomodate everyone and treat them like your guests, treat them with courtesy. This is coming from a South African because, I know the history of Africans, I experienced prejudice first hand. When they first came to Africa they were guests and they were treated as such. These people took advantage of our kindness and us accepting them as people. They started being masters by forcing people on hard labour with guns then they invited other white people to Africa, that’s when slavery started. The sad thing is that this shit is global. When Nelson Mandela and other political activists protested they put on maximum prison, Mandela served 27 years for fighting for equal rights and this happened yesterday. No black person would sell another black person. We inherited brotherhood from our ancestors. South African democracy is more than a decade now but most of the wealth is still owned by whites but I will tell you this, blacks are emerging and most of the top positions in companies are being occupied by blacks, not because they are black but because they have pottential, this has been proven. Yestarday we experienced the inauguration of Obama, just like Mandela who ever thought that would happen in America. This inequality is starting to peal off like the skin of a python when the season changes. How do you sleep at night knowing that you hate someone else for being a different colour from you. Through Mandela, Obama and all the other black people who stand for what they believe, black people will rise to supremacy and they will never hate someone because of colour. It’s in their nature of black people not no hate other people.

The ruling class really doesn’t care about race from what I can tell. Well, in the case of slavery I suppose it seems they did, but I’d wager the color of the slaves was pretty much irrelevant, it was just a convenience thing so they could view them as tools rather than human beings. Let’s not forget that during those days the native population and many whites were pretty heavily persecuted by the same people as well. Many whites were indentured servants and “whites” of certain nationalities, particularly Italians and the Irish, were treated extremely poorly, though the black slaves certainly had it worse, as did the natives. On a side note slavery was pretty rampant in Africa even before the Atlantic slave trade which brought them to the Americas. Often the losers of battles between kingdoms were kept as slaves. And the vast majority of slaves destined for western shores were rounded up and sold off as commodity by other black Africans. After slavery was outlawed in the US the oppressed whites, blacks, and natives were actually working together here and there to fight their common class-based oppression. The ruling class rather cunningly turned the lower class on itself and divided us along race lines as a convenient tool to distract us from our true enemy, which was of course, and in fact still is the ruling class itself.

You have my pissed off people who feel we have been given a bum rap and the beneficiaries who say “oh get over it!” Meanwhile those that actually committed the crimes are all dead by now. Reality check people; I do not think we want to have another Civil War so we better start coming to the table on some real shit. Case in point we are no closer to a resolution than 10 years ago: this post was about Google’s search engine and got real personal REAL quick. I think a common and dangerous mistake though is the assumption that all whites are among these “beneficiaries” of the slave trade. Fact is many whites, even then, were opposed to slavery. I have done extensive research on my ancestry and I am descended from simple, hard-working, decent, and progressive-thinking folks right on down the line. Not a single person in my family tree ever owned a slave, and in fact political activism is pretty common in my family. So I fail to see how all whites can be lumped into one guilty party. In fact I think that’s every bit as racist as someone thinking all blacks steal cars, which is also clearly pretty far from the truth. Racism is racism, no matter who it’s coming from or who it’s directed at.

And being “opposed” to something and actually taking a stand on it are 2 different things. Example: I am opposed to prohibiting gays from getting married. I think they should have that right. Do I stand up for gay rights? Not at all. Back to the topic: who cares if someone in your family owned a slave or not? They are not here now so it is a moot point. It only serves to make the individual feel better, breathe a sigh of relief. If one accepts and empathizes with a victim then that is all the victim can ask for. Whether it is slavery, racism, genocide, murder, rape, etc. the ability to empathize with an issue shows the truest form of humanity.
Quick history lesson- I believe it was German archaelogists (not completely sure of their origin) that determined human life started in Africa and migrated from there. Whites not too long ago (maybe still are) were labeled as Caucasians and/or Anglo-Saxon. The former name is because it is believed the White heritage began in the Caucasoid Mountains. Why is that you ask? Not sure of those mountains now but thousands of years ago they were nearly uninhabitable. 1st class system began in Africa and it was based on genetic lineage and physical appearance. Those who did not meet the physical standards were ostracized and cast out. It is believed they migrated to those mountains. A very cold environment ( I believe even still today). The human body is built for survival and adaptation, so for these outcasts to survive their environment their physical makeup began to adjust: narrow nose to better handle the cold, paling of the skin for both the cold and lack of sufficient sunlight, etc. Who do you think that group was and who do you think booted them out of Africa? Yep! Your very 1st form of racism, well, really it is prejudice since the color distinction had not become overly apparent as of yet.
Some reject that theory from these archaelogist and we do not know for sure, obviously, since it was so long ago, however, one fact remains: when 2 people with deep melanin have offspring you can have any range of colors; as the melanin lessens so do the color options. This–to date–is undisputable.

The second half of your post, however, is where the steam started coming out of my ears. For you to put down a white college fund over a black is crazy. I bought my first car, at 16, myself, paid for insurance, and started working at 15. I when to college 2 years after high school and will graduate in December 09′. I am $45,000 in debt due to school. I work full time in order to go to school to get a high paying job to make something of myself. School was not targeted at me, I knew that is what needed to be done in order to make a RESPECTABLE living.

I think that America is failing. As I read everyone’s replies and accusations and curses, I am convinced that literacy needs to be a much bigger issue in America than it is. What is really lacking in our country, though, is respect. No one respects anyone anymore, and I think this is the root of the problem here.
To those of you caucasian folk who are racist to those of African-American descent (yes, you are American too!) you need to look at the statistics. When you look at them, you will see that there are just as many white criminals as there are black. Personally, growing up in a town where poverty and unemployment was high and crime rates were raising, where just 10 years ago not a single homicide was commited, I found that a hefty portion of the crimes were committed by white people. This is not to leave out black people, but we also cannot leave out all the other races!
To look at it from a racist point of view, using the stereotype that all black people are car thieves is like saying that all the alcohol-related crimes are commited by Irish, and money scams are done by Jewish people. How would you like this?
I am a single mother, and I take all the support that my community can give me, especially with health care. When I go into the welfare office, I may see one black person, and the rest of the seats are full of white people. I don’t know why this is, and I don’t claim to say this is fact, I’m just stating what I observe.
As a student, I have personally become a victim of racial discrimination. I had a black teacher, who had us read a book called “Nigger.” In this class there was one black male student. Now I don’t mean to sound like the teacher’s pet, but I would consider myself a well-to-do student, taking 4 AP classes in high school and enrolling in all the highest level entry classes at the freshman college level. There was a project in this class, and I think I did fairly well on this assignment, however I was failed. I was crushed to learn that the only black student in the class had plagiarised his entire essay, written it in pencil on lined notebook paper, and drawn all the illustrations and figures in pencil as well, and he was passed on this project.
Also, being the friend of various black guys, I have seen many instances in which my friends were discriminated against for being who they are.
There must be a message that we are sending out to our kids that is coming off wrong. I see so many people, some old and set in their ways of racism, and some young, uneducated people, who need to learn respect, not only for all the people around them, but for themselves. Give peace a chance – don’t jump onto the bandwagon just to see some action. And if you’re going to start a debate, use some facts, and give reference for them so they can be proven.
Ignorance is running rampant in America, and I do not think this country is what we dream of it being. What are you going to do, as a citizen, to make this country better for your posterity?
I have read through this and come to the conclusion that whilst there are many ignorant and racist people in the world, from all nationalities and races; hope lies with the open-minded and generous-hearted people that can also be recognised from this thread.
In my extended group of friends we vary in race and colour, mainly white and mixed (white and black caribbean) race boys and girls; but also some black and asian. Between us we make lots of jokes about eachothers colour and background, always knowing that they are just jokes and that we are all good friends. I myself am the subject of most of the jokes; being of a bizarre mix of irish, hispanic and jewish descent which gives me a strange skin tone which can only be described as orangey caramel! This has to have been the most entertaining hour I have ever spent. I searched the tagline just to see if i could re-create the supposed google mishap (which i couldnt, presumably because it was a hoax from the start) and instead wind up reading a racism based blog. How wonderful!
So here is my two cents : I grew up in an area that was only 40% white (which i am) in a school that was mostly black/hispanic. Racism was abundant in all area of life, FROM all socio/ethnic backrounds. I now live in northern Idaho. For those of you who dont know the history, n. Idaho has been the home of the white supremacists for a long time, and has garnered a lot of media attention as such. So here is what i find curious : I see none of it. For all intensive purposes it doesnt exist. I see no hate mongers, running around with signs. I see no “reverse” racism.(I call it such not because i feel it needs a seperate name, but because too many black people seem to share sweetpea’s view that only whites can be “racists”) I see none of it. So why is it that when i lived in an area that was so culturally diverse that I dealt with racism on a daily basis, yet when i move to the racism capitol of the unites states, I couldnt locate a racist if i tried? Is it because they arent there? I think not. I would say its because without black, there is no white. (and trust me – there is NO Black here)
We need to learn to love our differences, of which there are many, instead of claiming they dont exist and labeling each other racist for pointing them out.

I think it’s kind of interesting that no one has talked about Affirmative Action, there was a point about not having “White college funds”, back in the 80’s there was a case of reverse racism where a white guy who had a better GPA, better test scores, etc was denied into UC Berkeley strictly on the fact that they had a QUOTA of minority spots that they had to fill and he was white… Nowadays, and where I grew up in the Bay Area, at my school, I was the minority– grew up in a prodominately Mexican neighborhood and around all sorts of cultures. It’s kind of hard to deny that as a minority you’re more prone to help from the government and otherwise.
The whole thing about what your ancestors went through, whether they chose to or not.. EVERYONE in todays’ society is accountable for their own prosperity or otherwise. People really need to man-up and get over it. Especially if you’re ignorant and don’t know the difference between “there”, “their” and “they’re”. I’m not an English major, just saying.

Im a half-caste (White father, black mother) and so i’ve seen it from both sides. I have white skin (thanks to my father, who i dont know) but everything i know is from my mother and her island culture. Google is both a company and a search engine. But when people think of google, they think of the search engine. Because they use it every day. And a search engine, should do it’s job, so that people can find what they are looking for. And if the search engine find what people are looking for, and in a hurry, then it has done it’s job. The engine just show suggestions based on, what people is typing mostly into the text field. And if “black people stole my car” is typed more times than “white car stole my car” then the search engine would tend to believe you had a typo. Just as if you had typed “wall streek” the engine suggest you “wall street”, because of most people search “wall street” instead of “wall streek”. Ok, maybe not the best example. But you get my drift. I think, whether or not,white-people-stole-my-car had been photoshopped or if it is real, the whole thing has been blown out of proportion in the media (internet mostly) just because of the white/black word. Personly I don’t want a search engine, that have been altered in order to been non-racial. I just want the engine to work, and be fast. Not sure how true this is in South Africa where you say you are from, but I know it isn’t true in the US. If one or two white people showed up in a black neighborhood, or anywhere else that they were the only white people, they would in general, not be treated with courtesy. Yes if they are visiting a friend it would be true. But if they were strangers it wouldn’t be true. But this would be the same no matter which race was the majority. Sad state of affairs that our media has us looking on people not of our own race with suspicion.

Well wait, the screenshot might be real, as in not edited by software, but the creator erased his original search query which most likely read “blk people stole my car” so that google would correct his spelling. Then they edited their query at the top, and then took the screen shot.
