Gmail Down: Gmail Is Temporarily Unable To Access Your Contacts

September 24th, 2009

Gmail is down again. How many times did you read this? How many times did you hear this? How many times this happened to you? Lots of times. Hundreds of times. This year was among the worst and Gmail was down more hours than hours that I actually got to use it. When thousands of users including me, it’s not down, but when we all need it more it goes down. I feel like Google is doing this deliberately so that people can actually talk, write, and tweet about it.

The Gmail outage is affecting a lot of users who talk of their misery on Twitter, the popular micro-blogging service, and “Gmail down” is now the most popular trend. Hashtags like #gmailfail, #gmaildown, or #gmailoutage are a must if you are deeply upset as the Gmail Service is Temporarily Unavailable.

Another error that Gmail users are getting as Gmail is down reads: “Gmail is temporarily unable to access your Contacts. You may experience issues while this persists.”

Oh really Google? You think that we don’t know that yet? We’re already experiencing issues. I can’t wait for the Gmail outage to be finished as we all need your service!

Comments

  • clouds are starting to make me mad

  • roger, i didn’t mean to make you mad.

    love, cloud

  • cloud, how exactly did you want to make roger?

  • Thought I was the only one. I’m definitely getting the error: “Gmail is temporarily unable to access your Contacts. You may experience issues while this persists.”

  • It’s amazing how much I find I rely on Gmail. Hopefully it gets up and running very soon!

  • Use HTML mode. Fixed!

  • gmail is free, what do you expect?
if you want a decent email account use a real exchange server.

  • I’am turning green. I need my Gmail!

  • The writer needs to get over it. NOOOOOOOO program, local or remote based is flawless. Go back to pen and paper if your gonna cry every time there’s an issue. At least Google tries to fix there issues.

  • “Gmail was down more hours than hours that I actually got to use it”

The only person that this would be true for is a non-gmail user. Or somebody who doesn’t use it enough for outages to actually have a significant effect on.

Gmail has been down this year for less than 3 hours that actually affected me.

  • I think Google guys are working on it…

There is a status ‘Service disruption’ on the application status board.

    Chck it here

  • What a bunch of lies. Google was down more than you were able to use it? BS. Google mail has a 99.9% uptime.

  • You do, of course, realize that Gmail is free, so it’s kind of ridiculous to demand anything from it. When it works, it’s great, when it doesn’t, well you’re not paying for it, so… Let me know if you find something better than gmail too.

(I’m not implying that you can really depend on anything, even if you pay for it, especially talking about software…)

  • @cloud,

we are now at war! :)

    love,
    roger

  • “Gmail was down more hours than hours that I actually got to use it.”

That has to be the douche-iest statement I’ve heard all year. Self important are we?

  • Eh … it’s a free service for most so I’m not complaining at all – why get all bent out of shape? I have a paid service I use for my “real” communications but I’ve used GMail since way back when it was an invitation only sign-up. Since then I’ve seen only few outages or failures with most of them centered around feature release and updates – pretty typical.

Is it also down for the “corporate” or paid customers? When I read yesterday GMail push is now activated for iPhone users I figured this would happen – a gabillion users suddenly disabling IMAP and using push … it’s gotta be a major strain for any service. Oh and yeah … the GMail push servers are offline right now at least that’s what my phone is screaming at me.

Still, it’s FREE so instead of me letting my panties get in a wad I’ll simply snuff about a bit until emails from my family containing cute pics of kittens nibbling on some kids ear and links from my friends to their favourite porn sites begin to come in again. Then again if my Windows machine locks up one more time today …!

  • Your statements are so exaggerated it’s not even funny. I depend on Google Apps for myself and several users, and Gmail has only been down a couple of times in the past year. So if it’s been down for you more than you’ve gotten use it…you really must not use email much. Gmail is, to many people, a wonderful alternative to many other options that truly suck and are spam-ridden. How about letting us enjoy our Gmail without your unfounded comments.

  • cloud, please move, you’re blocking me.. I think that’s why roger is upset

  • I am a long time user of GMail and have never had an issue with it… IMO GMail is the best free web mail service available.

  • It’s kinda hard to justify complaining about something that is COMPLETELY FREE. Yeah, it’s annoying, but the fact that it’s free (and works fairly well overall) is not to be discounted. They’ll fix it eventually.

  • (Inside info…You’ll Notice More Outages with Google Services)

I was told that Google is going through a company-wide major re-org and re-focus due to the revitalization of MS Live Search (aka Bing). Google is vulnerable at this point, as Bing market shares are growing at an astronomical rate.

Several highly talented engineers and staffers aren’t happy with the direction that Google may be taking. I was told that one of the campaign is to pass costs to the users (i.e. premium pay search, gmail and gtalk). And as for the cloud-computing initiative, one G-engineers has expressed that they do not have the infrastructure or expertise to do this – like Microsoft and IBM does. And the daunting demands placed upon the G-staff to make this transition happen.

Some has abandoned the ‘Google-ship’ and gone over to Microsoft to partake on the new Bing projects. Better pay, working conditions, direction, resources, and a stable environment.

You’ll notice more outages with Google’s service as G-staffer/engineers collectively abandon Google.

  • this sucks…. any idea how long will this take

  • cloud, you are too cool.

    love, hahaha

  • What about google talk? Has anyone heard? My coworkers and I are having issues.

  • That is funny Cloud. Hey, remember Gmail is free!

  • Looks like it’s been resolved, contacts are loading properly now.

  • Gmail down more hours than it was up this year? Are you retarded?
